(Reposting this from ML section because now attempting install w/ Mavericks):

Hi All,

I've tried to install Mavericks and the problem I'm running into is I can't get it to boot. Config is:

- Lenovo Thinkstation D20, Phoenix Bios.
- 2x Xeon X5650
- onboard sound card, Intel 82801JI
- onboard ethernet, Broadcom Net BCM5755
- 48G ECC RAM (UDIMMs)
- nVidia GTX 670 4GB

BIOS Settings:
- Vt-D = Disabled
- Wake on LAN = Disabled
- HPET- no settings available in BIOS
- SATA = native AHCI mode (using Intel chipset, not Marvel SAS)
- Tried booting from rear USB ports instead of front, no change

With GUI boot and no boot args, it just hangs on the white/grey Apple screen. I've tried using verbose boot, and here's a list of all the boot args I've tried, along with the last line(s) of the boot log (I tried these boot args based on some searching of the forums and some googling):

-v -x GraphicsEnabler=No
- [ PCI configuration end, bridges 11, devices 30 ]

-v -x GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x2000
- [ PCI configuration end, bridges 11, devices 30 ]

-v -x GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x2000 cpus=1
- RTC: Only single RAM bank (128 bytes)

-v -x GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x3000 cpus=1
- RTC: Only single RAM bank (128 bytes)

-v -x GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x2000 PCIRootUID=0
- RTC: Only single RAM bank (128 bytes)

-v -x GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x2000 PCIRootUID=1
- [ PCI configuration end, bridges 11, devices 30 ]

-v -x GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x3000 PCIRootUID=0
- RTC: Only single RAM bank (128 bytes)

-v -x GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x3000 PCIRootUID=1
- RTC: Only single RAM bank (128 bytes)

-x -v GraphicsEnabler=No npci=x2000 cpus=1 PCIRootUID=0
- [ PCI configuration end, bridges 11, devices 30 ]

-v -x GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x3000 cpus=1
- RTC: Only single RAM bank (128 bytes)
[ PCI configuration end, bridges 11, devices 30 ]

-v -x GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x3000 cpus=1 PCIRootUID=1
[ PCI configuration end, bridges 11, devices 29 ]

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You are using some very uncommon hardware there, really hard to say what is going on. You may want to consider building a new system with more common hardware, that's the beauty of a site like this, with the ability of being able to load OSX on such a wide range of hardware now, and with more people doing it, the chance of finding someone with the same or very similar hardware is pretty good. With what you have, its not very likely too many people are trying to put OSX on a Lenovo think station yet. Good luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Posted in your other thread, but I've gotten past all the errors and have my system working except for sleep. This machine is odd... I can provide any help or files you need.

Freeman- this is great news! I've explored all the install options and simply dead-ended. Would greatly appreciate it if you would respond with any files/instructions I might need.

Thank you!

Thank you!

I didn't receive a PM from you. Try again?

I remember booting with npci=0x2000, PCIRoot=1, as well as the edited iopcifamily.kext that's floating around the internet. You're going to have to remove the sata cables for your hard drives from the RAID array that's in the machine, it's not working as of now (I might be able to do something about that though). Just plug them into the intel SATA ports that are currently occupied by your CD drive(s). That should get you through the install.

Edit: And -f, now that I think about it.

Freeman,

To conform to site rules it would be better if you could post the needed files on the forum. In return, I'd be happy to post up a detailed install "how-to" for the benefit of the forum once I have it working myself.

Some questions:

1. Earlier, I'd tried everything you suggested, EXCEPT the iopci kext. I assume I just copy this into /Extra/Extensions/ on the install USB?

2. Have you attempted to get anything more recent than 10.8 working, like Yosemite? Any luck?

3. Do you have USB devices, App store, etc. working?

4. What additional files will I need?

Very excited about this, as I thought I'd tried everything!

Freeman,

Ah, looks like I don't have enough posts to PM; that's why it didn't go through. Though to conform to site rules it would be better if you could post the needed files on the forum. Alright, I'll post here so everyone can benefit from it.

1. Yes. Make sure you use a patched appleacplatform as well.

2. Yes, I'm currently on 10.9.2. I'll install Yosemite when I have this fully configured.

3. All USB ports work. The app store does as well.

4. No additional files are required as far as I can remember. Try booting the installer and I can help you troubleshoot.

Freeman- Thanks for the help! Just started this up again, will post a complete guide when finished.

Unibeast- do I need to check "Legacy USB support" or "Laptop support" for this config?

Hello guys, I'm also stuck with install attempt (Mav & Yosemite) on a ThinkStation S20 (single Xeon E5640/ GTX560/ 12GB RAM) and hope I can use tips you may be able to share to get my system running too. Many thanks in advance...
