Has anyone started a build with the new i7 5820k and DDR4 memory?

I'm looking to build a new video editing system with the new i7 5820k and a 2011 v-3 board and ddr4 ram. I would like to know if anyone has done this and if the new Yosemite works well on it. Has Tony Mac updated the custom build parts list with any of new ones?
I will be using a solid state drive for my boot drive and one for my edit drive. Please advise on a good 2gb video card as well and keep in mind I do not play any games on my computer.

There is no support for X99 in the OS X kernel yet. Makes it a little more complicated
to get one of these working. If Apple does a refresh of the Mac Pro then it will be easier
to install Yosemite and have a fully working system.

Thanks guys for the info and I'm also wondering if I should build the best system I can with a socket 1150 board and a I7 4790 and spend less on ram.
My only concern is by the middle of 2015 I may regret not having spent a few hundred dollars extra to get a machine I can upgrade more in the future. Technically I could just get a 3.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5 processor which is the same one in the base model of the new Mac Pro.
Any thoughts from anyone on how much use I will get out of building a machine that will last at least 3-4 good years of editing and adobe creative suite?

You can easily build a high end system using socket 1150 hardware and get good performance with hardware that is well supported. The socket 2011 X79 hardware is also supported but you would be buying the older hardware. X99 is not yet supported so is more of a hobby build until things are properly supported.

What hardware are you replacing? How urgent is a hardware upgrade for you right now?

Thats why I know a really solid 1150 board build and maybe the 4790k I7 and a 4gb graphics card and 2 solid state drives would be a huge inital improvement in my editing system.

But I worry that 3 yrs down the road Im will be itching to upgrade to a 2011 v3 board and new processor. Whats the best core build such as Processor, MB and graphics card that would be suggested to last for at least 3 years?

This would be an unbelievable upgrade even with the processor running on stock speeds it will be a huge improvement. It would be on a par with an entry level MacPro. Your priority is a suitable custom built machine that will run stable even when pushed hard. The Z97 boards with i7-4790K offer that now.

No you will not. Three years down the line the goal posts will have moved again - you will be looking at what is current and supported at that point in time. Hardware in 2017/2018.

The current socket 2011-3 hardware needs a new Mac Pro to be produced from Apple and then perhaps 4-8 weeks later there will be an incremental OS update from Apple that will have the proper compatibility built into the OS that will let the pc hardware builds run much better. The question is when will Apple release a Mac Pro that uses 2011-3 hardware. Will it be before Christmas, before spring, before the summer or next fall? I hope to see something before spring. It could easily be 4-5 months away, there is no way of really knowing.

Ok with that logic in mind if all Im doing with my machine is adobe creative suite, ms office and internet surfing, It might be better to build the newer machine and use windows OS till the new mac is updated. Then get an ssd drive and install the Mac OS and boot off of that one.
I still will have my Imac and my powerbook pro. I'm just torn because the type of build I'm thinking of doing is only a few hundred dollars difference between a great 1150 mb 4970k I7 and the 2011 v3 mb and I7 6 core 5820k build which in the end will last longer.
So from what you are saying does that mean as of now no one can build a Hackintosh with the 2011 v3 board and 5th gen I7 chips?

Plenty of food for thought in the above links. You can also try installing OS X Yosemite and see how that you get on. Make sure that any core software applications that you wish to use has Yosemite compatibility.

Thanks Adrian, I really appreciate your help on this. I think Im going to go with the new hardware i7 5820k build and just go with Windows for a few months until the kinks get ironed out for the switch to Yosemite, which I can later ad to another boot drive. I probably wont build this till after the new year so I have time and Im hoping to save money over Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
