I fixed my "An error occurred during activation. Try again." error!

I ended up just generating brand new IDs, and of course got the error to call Apple with the customer code. Once they fixed it on their end, I logged into iMessage and it works.

Steps I took:

  1. Logged out of System Preferences -> iCloud.
  2. Did Step 4 in this guide (deleted cache, and .plist files) - Post #1
  3. Deleted NetworkInterfaces.plist & preferences.plist in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
  4. Opened Clover Configurator and went to SMBIOS, clicked the magic wand and used iMac13,1
  5. I checked the Serial Number it generated and it gave the "We're sorry, the number you have provided cannot be found in our records. Please verify the number and try again " error so that was good, and kept it - Step 3 of post #1
  6. Put the Serial Number + 5 random alphanumeric characters at the end of it into the "Board Serial Number" field in Clover Configurator.
  7. Opened Terminal and used the "uuidgen" command and inserted it into the "SmUUID" field in Clover Configurator.
  8. Rebooted
  9. Logged into iCloud
  10. Logged into iMessage and got the call Apple error
  11. Went through the process to have Apple call me, and they unlocked my Apple ID

When I had Apple call me I gave them a Serial Number that was found in https://selfsolve.apple.com, not the one I used in my SMBIOS.
If you give them a Serial Number that returns the error in my Step 5 (above), they will tell you they can't find it in their system, and that is too risky. I've run into it before and they refused to help me until I had a Serial Number they could find in their system.

Well played, sir! I've been following this thread and it's great to see someone make a break through. I may have missed it but what's the site you're using for step #3 above?

Thanks

Can you tell me the magic words you said that got them to unlock? I called support and they wanted to "screenshare" to see the message, I obviously declined.

Hi,

I have got a legit wifi/bt card making the handoff/continuity working fine, iMessage (possibly why phonecall answer didn't work on this build) is my only trouble now.

Just read this guide but still got some confusion,

(1) What is iMessage debug? Is it a application or some terminal command? how to get it?

(2) I understand inputting a real mac ROM/MLB value may solve this problem, I have real MacBooks, I think I can take this risk, but how to change the values?

Thank you.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looks like I fixed it, finally. ;)
Still need to call Apple, not sure if the Genius was suspicious or dunno what to do, another Genius fixed it.

If it helps, I just tried changing the first digits of my serial number from C0 to CK. Clover Configurator seems to think that iMacs are only made in Cork, but sets the first two digits to Taiwan...
Anyway, it didn't work! I continue to get the 'error occurred during activation' message, so I've reverted to the old config file.

As part of that test I also generated a new SID to avoid being blacklisted, replacing the last 6 bytes with my ROM. I replaced the BoardID with my MLB, however this is a number beginning with C0, not CK.

I just told them I upgraded to Yosemite today, and when I logged into iMessage I got the error (I read the error to them) with a customer code.
They asked for the customer code and said the Mac department handles it so she transferred me to them. I waited on hold for about 10 minutes, she comes back and said they fixed it while I was on hold and asked me to log into iMessage.
I did, and it worked.

I try to avoid saying I am near my computer in case they start asking me questions, I can just say I'm at work, and I wrote down the numbers, I'll call back when I get home.

I'm thinking about recreating a boot disk and inject to the plist UUID etc... even tough I now get the message "could not sign in to messenger...." the question is which values do I include in the plist? the one from Yosemite(Msg worked a couple of days after I called Apple with the code then stopped working)? Or use the values I had under Mavericks; there too I got a code and had to call Apple at the time but iMessage worked flawlessly after that)

Thanks
