Clover with the old guard: GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0

Hello - is anyone using Clover with GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0 ? My system has been great for a long time. Except for sleep issues (that is, the never-ending-sleep) and, more recently, iMessage not working. Am getting ready to move to Yosemite and would really like to get the iCloud integration back up and running. Everything I read says: go with Clover.

But my motherboard is getting rather old; are other folks using it? Can't find any posts with specifics. Have an extra hard drive I might experiment with but this is my first go round with it and would love some guidance.

I am giving it a whirl right now, and so far it's a no-go. Haven't been able to boot into the installer, even. Not sure what's going on, but I get stuck on:

You must use the Legacy settings to build your Clover USB installer. The X58A boards do not have UEFI BIOS.

i was able to use unibeast to update my rev 2.0 FH bios GA-x58A-UD3R without too much of a problem.

then i tried using the clover to yosemite guide which was a little confusing for legacy.... here is what i did:

from what i could figure, these should be the legacy settings - guide is a little confusing as to which is which....

reformatted the EFI partition:

1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal
2. Type: diskutil list and locate your system drive's EFI partition. It will be under IDENTIFIER. Be sure to use the correct one. (For this example: disk0s1)
3. Type the following, enter password and hit enter:

sudo newfs_msdos -v EFI -F 32 /dev/rdisk0s1

followed these instructions from the clover yosemite guide:
20. Navigate to /EFI/CLOVER/ and replace default config.plist with attached config.plist*
21. Navigate to /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/10.10/ and add FakeSMC.kext
22. Navigate to /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/10.10/ and add your ethernet kext
23. Navigate to /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/10.10/ and add NullCPUPowerManagement.kext
24. Navigate to /EFI/CLOVER/drivers64UEFI/ remove VBoxHfs-64.efi and add HFSPlus.efi
25. (Optional) Navigate to /EFI/CLOVER/ACPI/patched/ and add DSDT.aml and SSDT.aml

tried to boot, but kept getting to a config menu but then i couldn't continue as my USB keyboard wouldn't work. i tried multiple USB ports. used my Unibeast USB to get back into my system and used clover configurator to turn on Fixed USB to true and USB inject to true, and still didn't work. i eventually gave up and switched back to chameleon by using this:

i'm thinking if i'm going to continue experimenting i'm going to buy another SSD for experimentation. I have a backup startup (conventional HD) drive, but it would be better to have a dedicated drive to experiment with.

After reading about all of the advantages that Clover brings (including iMessages), I spent most of last weekend attempting to successfully install a working version of Yosemite using Clover. I experienced the same difficulties the rest of the community has doing the legacy install with the X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0.

I ultimately ended up defaulting back to the Chimera/Chameleon Yosemite solution for now. The configuration steps for legacy systems is simply much more straight forward and well documented. Hopefully at some point in the future the TonyMac community helps frame configurations by chipset series for Clover in the same fantastically simple way that's been done for Chimera.

Have any other Old Guard X58 users tried again with the latest Clover r2976?

Thanks everyone for your input on this thread -- I figured that newer development would be focused on newer motherboards and that us goodies-but-oldies may struggle ... am hoping someone with a stronger will and more free time can pave the way for this motherboard to shine again. It's still a strong build.

Or maybe it'll just give me good reason to upgrade. Smile.

I have been messing around with Clover/Yosemite install for a few days now... I can get to the install screen and go through the install process - but its ultra slow... I have the GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 1.0.

As far as Clover and install - I can get to the install screen and go through the install process - but its extremely slow... It takes a good hour to boot into the installer - and then about 2.5hrs install potentially longer. See attached image for the install status, and the slowness. Not sure why its so slow, any ideas?

My machine I've been using since SL currently has a working Yosemite partition. I followed the latest guides provided on tonymacx86 - Unibeast/Multibeast/Chimera Install - this partition works fine (speed, etc..) other than imessage. I'm trying to install Yosemite via Clover on a separate Crucial SSD for the potential iMessage benefits, and testing. I'm overclocking a 930 to 4.0, and have maxed out the RAM on the motherboard. Motherboard Firmware is F7. I'm using a new 64GB USB, on a USB 2.0 slot. Machine was still speedy with Mavericks.

Here are my settings...

I'm using the legacy settings in the screenshots.

As far as the kexts on the usb, I'm using:
FakeSMC provided via guide
NullCPUPowerManagement provided via guide
I'm also removing VBoxHfs-64.efi and add HFSPlus.efi per the instructions.
I have a TP-Link PCI Express Wifi Adapter which shows as AirPort - so no need for the Ethernet kext (at least that's my current thinking).

I'm also using the DSDT.aml for the F7 firmware - via here (assumed this could be used):

I'm using my SSDT via my working Unibeast/Multibeast/Chimera Yosemite Install (assumed this could be used)..

I'm using "Config.plist-GE=Yes-NVIDIA.zip" sample provided by the guide above...

The boot arguments I'm using kext-dev-mode=1 -v dart=0. Clover is loading - I'm hitting spacebar on the Install Yosemite USB, and hitting run with verbose (-v). The kext-dev-mode=1 and dart=0 is defaulted by clover...

Still installing as I type...so I'll keep you posted on the final results... I'm wondering what is causing the slowness - and if it will persist past install (assuming it continues to work)...

Pardon me but I don't understand this problem. I own a GA-EX58-UD3R motherboard which I thought was very close in design and configuration to your X58 motherboard (same chip sets).

And I do not have an issue with Clover and a vanilla install of Yosemite 10.10. (meaning no Chimera and no MultiBeast and no /Extra folder).

Is there something that I am missing? And with Mavericks and Yosemite I do not use a DSDT.aml.

Do you have any problems with sleep or audio with no DSDT? Or are using Clover to inject audio?
