Mavericks: No Audio - Realtek ALC AppleHDA [Guide]

Status
Not open for further replies.
Hi toleda,

My Mavericks install has no audio, the sound device doesn't show up in the sound preference panel.

I'm using clover, OS X 10.9.4 / Gigabyte GA-Z87x-UD3H with bios F9 / Intel i5 4670k / Nvidia 660 Ti

I followed the audio_CloverALC procedure as described there https://github.com/toleda/audio_CloverALC

Any idea of what I'm doing wrong?

Debug.log shows the error:
Code:
0:121 0:001 KextToPatch 0: (t1-) Kext bin patch[ERROR] bin2hex '
                ' syntax error
0:128 0:006 [ERROR] bin2hex '
                ' syntax error
0:129 0:001 - invalid Find/Replace data - skipping!

Fix:
Download:config-audio_cloverALC.plist.zip
Copy: KernelAndKextPatches/KextsToPatch/Item 7 (10.9/AppleHDA/Realtek ALC1150)
Paste: EFI/CLOVER/config.plist/KernelAndKextPatches/KextsToPatch (replace incorrect entry)

Mavericks: HDMI Audio - AppleHDA [Guide]

Hi all. Thanks toleda for all you work.

Since 10.9.4 I have not gotten audio enabled properly yet. I never see a device on "Sound" or codec in DPCI manager. As per 1st page info:

1. 10.9.4 / Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H / F8 / i5 4670K / NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB
2. This one as well as many others
3. -View attachment milt-mac-pro.ioreg
have tried 2.3.7, 2.6.1 and 2.6.3, ALC892 patched kexts... with mulibeast / kextbeast / hda wizard / audio_alc_9series-hda-93_patch /found elsewhere online

Have tried (perhaps not all combination of the above) with:

Code:
<key>HDAEnabler</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>HDEFLayoutID</key>
<string>01000000</string>

and also

Code:
<key>HDEFLayoutID</key>
<string>02000000</string>

and

Code:
<key>HDEFLayoutID</key>
<string>03000000</string>

I also tried (non AppleHDA):
1. 60 second off reboot
2. disable/enable hd audio from bios
3. audio works on windows
4. voodoohda 2.8.6 enables audio but quality/volume is terrible

Any help much appreciated. I have been banging my head for hours.. It used to work flawlessly with 10.9.3 even after sleep/wakeup.

I never see a device on "Sound" or codec in DPCI manager.
No codec means no audio, full stop. Until you see a codec, every audio experiment will fail.

Once that is fixed, layout-id=0 means HDAEnabler.dylib is not working. The org.chameleon.Boot.plist is correct with HDEFLayoutID=1.

I have no audio on Mavericks 10.9.4.

My system:
i5 2500k
MSI p67-c45 (with realtek ALC892 audio chip)
Bios version: E76731MS v1.19
PNY GTX 570
16 GB Ram

I tried installing the ALC892 driver in Multibeast, but it didn't work. I also tried Voodoo HDA v2.8.4 (removing AppleHDA) with no success. I have attached the requested files. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Thanks for the quick response. I jus tnoticed that I posted this in the wrong thread. It should be in http://www.tonymacx86.com/audio/112458-mavericks-audio-realtek-alc-applehda-guide.html or http://www.tonymacx86.com/audio/112461-mavericks-no-audio-realtek-alc-applehda-guide.html

So how do I get from no codec to codec? I thought that the different AppleHDA.kexts were for exactly that no? Also, how can it be explained that with VoodooHDA I had audio (corrupted one per se..). Also, since 10.9.3 I have not changed anything hardware wise...

Also I tried all of:

Verify

  1. Reset codec
    1. Shutdown
    2. Pull power cord
    3. Press power button twice
    4. Wait 30 seconds
    5. Plug power cord in
    6. Boot
  2. Boot flag -x, disables audio?
  3. Boot with Installer, disables audio?
  4. BIOS/HD Audio disabled?
  5. Defective codec?
  6. Linux/Windows audio?

Also, whilst booting with -v at the very beginning I see:

"Unknown HD Audio device...."

No, each AppleHDA.kext represents a different codec. Only the one correct AppleHDA.kext works with each codec.

I don't see "Unknown..."

On the screenshot (or actually photo of the boot sequence) under:

-AUDIO DEVICE INFO-
Class code...
Device Name...

Ok, so how can I find the correct AppleHDA.kext? I have tried noumerous kexts, all suposidely for ALC 892. As I said:

"have tried 2.3.7, 2.6.1 and 2.6.3, ALC892 patched kexts... with mulibeast / kextbeast / hda wizard / audio_alc_9series-hda-93_patch /found elsewhere online"

What can I be doing wrong? I am ocnfident that it worked out of the box with the Multibeast kext on 10.9.4...
