I started using the SSDTPRGen script before you replied. I have a little more knowledge than you might think, but I'm way behind you! This is my 3rd hack! Thanks for all the input. :headbang:

Progress. I have switched to a 14,2
iMac and ran the script as I already knew of it, so I read through it and it knew all about the new CPU and had the correct entries.

Thank you so much for all the help. it is very much appreciated.

Cheers!

PS will make the boot list c and p state changes you suggest!

BINGO!!!! :):D:headbang::lol::clap:

Thank you!

OK Pic attached. Now there's a load of guys in various threads yelling about the 4790k cpu, what would be the best method for me to tell them how we did it? There was some BIOS stuff I changed...

Thank you so much for taking time in your day to help me. So, um...overclocking it? How do I build that SSDT? It'll do 4.4 on just under 1.2. vcore :0)

Awesome news, glad to hear you worked it out. Feel free to share any way you want. But of course, please share with me!

You had to adjust vCore to get to 4.4? Doesn't the 4790K turbo to 4.4 GHz with default BIOS settings?

Hi,

Yeah I had turn the v-core down!! This f9 BIOS was the 2nd for the Devils Canyon for the board and was giving it 1.37 by default o_O:eek:o_O with temps to match!!

I believe there is a newer beta BIOS 10c that corrects the issue, but for now it's a beta so I'll stay away....

The fix you and I worked out is detailed here..I'm getting 4.4 at 1.97vcore for now...

The problem was if you had the cpu at 4.0 with boost to 4.4 (the default BIOS setting) it would hang booting with a keystore error.

As I said, I had to BIOS set turbo-boost to Enabled not Auto and set Cores 3 and 4 to 44 and then boot to 10.9.4, build the ssdt to manage multipliers using the script, made your suggested bootplist changes and appear to have EIST. It's all good now, if a workaround/hack/bodge/whatever!! So I get 4.4 under heavy workload/benching with lower frequencies for minor work. HW is miles off, Intel Power Gadget, as you said, is much more accurate.

Thanks again...

Glad to hear you got things worked out. Sounds like even though Gigabyte is saying the 4790K is supported by the F9 BIOS, some kinks still need to be worked out; hopefully a stable F10 will fix that.

For overclocking, you'll need to rerun the script. So, say you're overclocking to 4.7 GHz:

  1. Rerun script using turbo flag:
    Code:
    sudo ./ssdtprgen.sh -turbo 4700
  2. Place new SSDT.aml in /Extra (replacing existing)
  3. Reboot to BIOS
  4. Make BIOS changes for overclock
  5. Save, and reboot

Hope this helps.

Updated to 10.9.4. I updated without issue using the following steps. More info contained in this post.

  1. Download Combo Update here
  2. Repair permissions
    Code:
    diskutil repairpermissions /
  3. Backup using preferred backup method (I use CCC)
  4. Install 10.9.4 update via Combo Update and restart
  5. Reinstall Audio drivers via MultiBeast and restart

TRIM patch in latest MultiBeast is not working, and will be fixed in next update. I reapplied TRIM via Terminal commands and the following post. If you're not comfortable with this, I recommend waiting until the MultiBeast fix.

If you're using the NVIDIA web drivers, you'll need to update to the latest either by installing manually or via System Preferences. If CUDA drivers are installed, those will need to be updated as well.

Hi,

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. Will try this soon, once work calms down. I want to get a clone of the working drive as well before I go further. Which of course, I will......

Thanks again for all the help, seem like it helped out another guy in the other thread as well :headbang:

Cheers

EDIT: I should not have done this! Read the rest of the thread! :silent:

Well, news. I just overclocked it and didn't need to change/regenerate the SSDT at all, just pumped up to 4.6 which is where I have left it for now. Have proved it by Prime and Handbraking in Win 8.1 for a few hours at 1.190vcore so that's pretty good no BSOD. Then flipped over and ran OSX all day. Temps all nice booting and running either OS and a decent Cinebench boost to go with it! May shoot for 4.7 in another few days, but that's going to depend alot on the vcore my cpu needs for that, I have a nice cooler, but don't want to run on a knife-edge...Darn, you know I'm going higher, right? :D

Anyway, that's all to report from the front for now!

Cheers!

Yes, however your SSDT.aml P-state table doesn't match your CPU now. Do me a favor and search 'XCPM' in the Console. I'm guessing you'll get a P-state table mismatch error. I don't know the severity of this, but I'm guessing it's not good for power management if your P-state table and CPU states don't match.
