Hello everyone.

I posted about this earlier with no replies but now I'm seeing this may potentially be a network issue. I work at a studio where we're running two machines all day. One is the new Hackintosh and the other a 2007 Mac Pro.

I've been having a lot of freezing issues with the Hackintosh since it was up and running but it was only once every few days. I sort of figured out there was some sort of correlation with the network because every time it froze, the internet was out. Naturally, I would restart both the router and the Hackintosh at the same time thinking it was something with the router.

The other day, however, I realized the issue is with the Hackintosh. Instead of restarting the router, I only restarted the Hackintosh and the moment it shut down the internet instantly restored for the Mac Pro. Very bizzare. Its like the network locks up with the Hackintosh for some reason and isn't freed until the connection is fully lost.

Any ideas what this could be?

Bump, not even a suggestion?

You could try a BIOS upgrade (if you haven't already) Link.

There are also some reports of freezes when 4 sticks of RAM are installed - You could try with 2 for a while just to eliminate that as a cause.

Good Luck

Thanks, I'm building an identical build this week so maybe I'll start that one out with a fresh BIOS update and 2 sticks of RAM instead. Will report back.

Which AppleIntelE1000e.kext version do you have installed?

If you're using the top port -- i217v controller -- and the AppleIntelE1000e.kext, that's why. Use the bottom port -- i210AT controller -- which is natively supported in Mavericks. Solved my problems.

Any update? I'm convinced it's a network controller issue. I've tested both the i217v and i210AT ports. I figured since the i210 is now natively supported, it would fix it... nope.

I run a Plex media server that I share with a few family members. When my system crashes, it usually will happen when the server is being accessed remotely (even a few time locally though too). However, it's very intermittent. On average it's happening about once every two weeks now with my new build. I ran the same server for two years with no issue on my previous hack.

This is driving me nuts... and family members when the hack freezes, kills the network connection, and in turn ruins their movie.

Thats exactly what I was experiencing, but usually after long file transfers.

The driver to blame is AppleIntelE1000e.kext, but even after using the latest driver from the original autor site, it still gave me the same problems.

I bought this LAN PCie card for my gigabit network, and all problems are gone:

But if still want to try you luck with the latests intel E1000 driver, here it is:

Wait, youre saying to try to use the other ethernet port and that they are not the same?
