Help - Mavericks install HP Envy 17-J037CL

I stand corrected. It's step 4 onward. I initially feared I would have to start from scratch since the checklist doesn't quite spell out that the the first 3 things are review. I thought it might help the future clueless like myself to spell it out in more certain terms. But thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Anyway, one further question. Audio. I've got IDT High Def audio on my HP and from what I've seen out there, it looks like I need to physically patch a couple of kexts (Apple HD and AppleIntel...)

Before I lobotomize my mostly working setup, I'm concerned that the patching steps I found were set forth by someone who was installing on Lion (not Mavericks).

Might you be able to point me to the right set of steps for a Mavericks setup?

Can't thank you enough for all of your help thus far.

Make a backup of any kext you patch. If it causes problems, you can go back to where you started...

Yes - definitely pays to back stuff up!

Might you be able to recommend a reference to a specific set of IDT audio kext patching steps that could possibly work ok with Mavericks?

Thanks again.

Depending on the specifics of your codec, there is a post on insanelymac with the files necessary....

Need audio help...

I've got audio working or my IDT 92HD91BXX but it only works if I boot my Hackintosh HDD partition from the USB stick.

If I boot directly from the HDD itself without the stick, OSX doesn't see the device.

Not sure why that would be the case but any pointers from the forum community are welcomed.

Please let me know if I can provide more info.

I'm using a patched AppleHDA and HDAEnabler.

Thanks,

-I

Never mind - got it working from the HDD boot now.

I think everything is pretty much working properly on my HP Envy 17-J037CL.

This laptop has a Haswell CPU. Haswell is supported only by ML 10.8.5 and any version of Mavericks. Snow Leopard has no support for Haswell (not even Ivy).

This forum is for Mavericks. Discussions involving Snow Leopard are off-topic.

What DVD are you trying to burn? Installing Mavericks does not involve DVD burning.

Please provide complete details in your profile/signature (pointer over your name in upper right - drop down menu select Settings and Edit Profile from options in left pane of Settings menu.)

System: manufacturer/model
CPU: detailed CPU model + motherboard chipset
Graphics: all graphics devices + laptop internal screen resolution

For example, typical Ivy laptop:
System: HP ProBook 4540s
CPU: i5-3320m/HM76
Graphics: HD4000, 1366x768

Use CPU-Z on Windows to find CPU (Core iX-xxx) and motherboard chipset (HMxx). For a laptop, these details are important and affect critical installation procedures.
