Hi

I am looking at building my first budget Hackintosh.
The components that I am thinking of using as follows:
Motherboard: GIGABYTE H81M-S2PH H81 Express Chipset Socket LGA1150 Motherboard
CPU:
Intel Core i3-4330
Hard Drive: 500gig SATA2
RAM: 4Gig DDR3 133
Case: Mini ATX

I will then want to run Mavericks OS.
I will then stream my media content that is stored on my NAS device to all my apple TVs.

Please can you give me your thoughts and let me know if this will work?

I'd suggest looking carefully at the motherboard, and looking it up thoroughly, as I have heard that some people sometimes have issues with Airplay. So for your own sake, make sure this works perfectly. Would be kind of a bummer if it didn't seeing as that your primarily building this machine to stream to your Apple TV's :p

Thanks Mr1inch what budget motherboard would you recommended?

Concur with Mr1inch - look around the Forum's Mavericks Guides, User Builds and Golden Builds forum sections. You can buy too cheap and have nothing but problems...or you can spend $20 on a recommended motherboard and enjoy using OS X.

I also recommend you read the tonymacx86 Buyer's Guide for systems and components compatible with Apple's OS X. http://www.tonymacx86.com/section/295-customac.html

This board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128662 is the better choice.
It not only costs less but has better audio (Realtek ALC 892 vs. 887) and also gives you
displayport output as well as HDMI and DVI. Quite a few have done builds with it so search
the User builds sections to learn more about their experiences.

Hi trs96,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have had a look and I cannot find any user build using the GA-H81M-HD3. Do you have the links?

Hi,

Would this motherboard work? [h=1]GIGABYTE B85M-HD3 B85 Express Chipset Socket LGA1150 Motherboard[/h]

That board is very similar to the H81M-HD3 model. Just has 2 more Sata3 ports/connections.

Did you see all of these threads?

Thanks... still going through them. For my first build I am looking for the simplest build possible, so which board would you recommend even if they are slightly more expensive.

What I would like to make sure is that the board is supported by all the standard installation processes.

So the way i see it it comes down to:
1.
GA-H87-D3H (more expensive but is recommended and supported by standard process)
2.
B85M-HD3 B85
3.
H81M-HD3

Which would you recommend from a simplicity point of view?

All three are equally easy to install OS X on with the I3-4330's integrated graphics. You'll just
need to use one or two boot flags to install and then do a DSDT free Multibeast install with
your audio and ethernet drivers selected. Each board may need different drivers but that is
easy to look up in the mobo specs sheet / motherboard manual.
