Universal Audio Apollo Issues

B-San, Thanks for the insight! I made those bios tweaks and ditched the tb kexts. Just ran a pretty light session and so far so good. No hiccups, no dropped audio at this point. I'm going to load up a 100+ track session this weekend, tax things a bit, and see how it handles. Light at the end of the tunnel???? We shall see....

Awesome to hear!

Did the fix work for both Mountain Lion and Mavericks?

I'm about to do a build for a friend tomorrow and am thinking that deleting all Thunderbolt-related kexts will be necessary as well...

Well I felt so good about things that I decided to do my friend's build with the same motherboard (GA-Z87X-UD5 TH)..

As mentioned before - I decided to go with Mountain Lion instead of Mavericks for my friend's build, but so far I haven't been able to get my Apollo to show up.

I went back to the other machine I had build which is running Mavericks to see what other differences there may have been.

To my dismay I found a few weird things happening with my Mavericks build which I thought was successful:

I've found that whenever the Apollo is connected, the spotlight icon in the upper right corner is no longer visible. Also the spotlight short cut (command-spacebar) no longer works. I attempted to take a screenshot of the situation, but the shortcut for that doesn't seem to work either (command-shift-4).

Actually it looks like the spotlight icon appears in the form of an intermittent flash which appears for a split second once every minute or so.

Although the two OS X shortcuts seem to be disabled when the Apollo is connected, the Finder-related shortcuts appear to be working as normal.

If anybody else is having an Apollo working on their setup without exhibiting these issues, I'd like to know what settings were selected in the BIOS - particularly in the Thunderbolt section....

Man, I'm really starting to miss the Z77 Motherboards with Thunderbolt!

I was finally able to get my Apollo working with a Z87X-UD5 TH in 10.8.5 by going back into the BIOS and changing my Thunderbolt PCIe Cache-line size from the default value of 32 to 128.

Looks like the audio, bluetooth, date/time, and spotlight icons are disappearing once the Apollo is connected as well. As said before, the spotlight icon will intermittently flash as well.

Frustrating, but at least the Apollo is working to the point that I can wait to hear word of others' experience...

Hi I have the same board what are you using mac pro 3.1 ? what are your bios settings. still can't detect the twin for me
and never could get the onboard video to work. I have osx 10.8.5 as well

I have the Z77MX D3H TH board and by default I had 128 in the bios setting, it's working fine this way. It's weird problem the one you described, maybe it' smore software related. I had all soft od problems with ML 10.8.5 Aldo on driver installation and I was not the only one. On maverick all smooth

Yes; I tried Mac Pro 5,1 and got KPs

I the following BIOS settings from Steelsams post and achieved Thunderbolt functionality:

Also these Multibeast settings from another post he made may come in handy, but like I said - I had to go with Mac Pro 3,1.

As far as onboard video is concerned I would go in the BIOS and in Peripherals, change Initial Display Output to IGFX and make sure Intel Processor Graphics is set to Enabled.

Hopefully that helps!

Yes I done a few builds with that board and Thunderbolt has worked will in both OS X and Windows. I was about to compare the Thunderbolt PCIe Cache-line size so yeah, thanks for the info.

I also have done a few builds with the
GA-Z77X-UP5 TH (which have all worked solid with Thunderbolt) and am going to reference those settings as well in comparisons.

Also my other install with the Z87X-UD5 TH, used Mavericks and was the first to have the audio, bluetooth, date/time, and spotlight icons are disappear once the Apollo's connected.

Are u still having flashing icons?

One thing I noticed on my build is that I have no info in System profiler under the thunderbolt section even if I plug the unit and it's fully working

Yeah still having the flashing icons... also it's normal for the system profiler to list 'no thunderbolt devices'.

Hi guys! I need help!

I just completed a GA-Z87X-UD5 TH build but can't get the Apollo Twin Duo inputs to work (except for one of the times I reinstalled the Apollo driver!?). The outputs work as they should and the inputs show up in Logic with the right names but no sound. The Apollo Mixer does not recognize the Apollo (except for that one time!). What to do?!

I have two UAD2-cards and they are recognized by the UA software.
I use 10.9.4
I have the latest Win7 with the latest TH-drivers on a separate drive.
I have the same TH-Bios-settings as that picture in steelsam's thread.
I threw away all the TH-kext files as recommended.

It takes a while for date info, spotlight and such to appear (flashing), but the UA symbol is there directly.

Please help!
