I recognized something really crazy!!!!!!

I have the TP Link Wifi Card and a aktive connected Wifi.

Thank god, my girlfriend sent me a SMS. My Iphone right in front of the tower .... AND ? Freeze ....
I thought i am crazy ... pure luck (of course no luck ) ))

So i restarted and testet again. Friend send me SMS in front of the Tower. FREEZE.

I now deactivated WIFI and in System Panel. And? No freeze so far when sending SMS (funny ....

I try another day. Maybe i can speak more.

If the RF from the i-phone is interacting with the TP-LINK TL-WDN4800, moving the i-phone a few feet away from the antennas on the card should stop the problem. As an additional experiment, try turning off the wifi on the i-phone, place it where it was causing the system to freeze and see whether the problem persists. This assumes that the TP-Link is locking up your system because of interference on either the 2.4 or 5 GHz bands. If your i-phone is locking up the system even when the wifi on the phone is turned off, then other factors are involved such as a poor shielding on the TP-Link or motherboard.

Another thing you might consider - I couldn't find the info at the website, but is the R3 case metal or plastic? If plastic, it may explain the problem and provide you with a solution. You might be able to carefully line portions of the inside of the case with aluminum foil or a plastic metal film material to give you some rf shielding. Be very careful that the shield doesn't touch any components or you will create electrical short circuits and fry your system.

It's not that OS X is particularly sensitive to this; in fact, the OS doesn't make any difference (provided the wifi chip(s) / hardware are supported and turned on). The interference is the result of inadequate rf shielding which is a hardware issue. Have you ever noticed how an audio speaker will buzz or make noises when you put your cellphone near it and it receives a message or rings? The same thing is happening with your wifi card and/or the motherboard. Just like an audio speaker, it's picking up the rf from your phone and as a result does weird things like freezing up. A metal case is for practical purposes a Faraday cage which minimizes or cancels out the rf (electric) field.

what would be your sugestions ?

1. A different graphic card? Which ?
2. Change Tower? maybe my old Chieftec Metal Tower?
3. downgrade 10.8.5 ?

Some users have reported the freezes stop with turning "off" the XMP from Profile1, letting the memory to default to 1333. You can then try to set the memory characteristic manually. But, try it for a while with the memory at 1333 to see if you have any freezes.

Next check to see if your memory is on Gigabyte's Memory list. which is a button (PDF) on the right of the motherboards picture on Gigabyte's web site. Go to the Z87XUD3H motherboard page on Gigabyte's web site, and click on the Downloads tab. You'll see a "CPU Support List" and a "Memory Support List". Click on the latter.

Lastly, check to see if you're running the latest BIOS version.

The freezes are somewhat hard to pin down. However, the freezes seem go away when the memory is running at 1333 for most people. Good luck!

Many, many thanks for sharing this build. I used it as a guide for my own Build.

I have made a similar build with success but there are some minor issues.

I very recently had my desktop PC build by a local shop according to my specifications. I wanted a system that can run both Windows 8 and OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) using dual boot.

Multibeast configuration is attached.

First the system specs…

1. Case: Coolermaster Storm Trooper for adequate cooling of the system and processors.
2. Power Supply:
   Aerocool Strike X800W 80 Silver
3. Mother board: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H
4. Processor:
   Intel Core i7 4770K Haswell Box
5. Processor Cooler:
   Noctua NH-D14
6. SSD Flash drives for both dual boot operating systems OSX/Windows:
   2x Samsung 840 Evo 120 GB
7. Graphics:
   Geforce GTX 780 Direct CU II O.C 3GB
8. 2x Corsair 8 GB Vengeance 1600 MHz
9. Hard Drive:
   Western Digital Caviar Green 2 TB 64 MB SATA III
10. DVD burner:
    Samsung 24x
11. Windows 8.1 installed on the first 120 GB SSD and tested by local shop.
12. I build the Mavericks on the second 120 GB SSD

You should know that this system is dedicated solely to Flight Simming. I have a MacBook Pro for mail and general office work. And I have a MAC Mini coupled to the TV and a Marantz amplifier for music and movies.

The issues are the following:

1. When the system is updated (Apple Update) I loose audio. This is the most important issue. I need audio for the FlightSim. I have an old set of stereo speaker boxes plugged into the yellow center jack of the motherboard audio output. More than adequate for FlightSim audio.
   
   I guess it is the update for iTunes (not sure because the update contains several parts).
   
   When this happened the first time, I had to rebuild the system from scratch to recover audio. I now have automatic updates disabled.
   
   I also guess the update does something to the motherboard audio drivers.
   This is the issue that I would like most to be resolved.
   
   Any clue as to why this happens and how to patch it when it does (without having to rebuild the system from scratch)?
2. After booting a few times consecutively from OSX, when I shut down, the system reboots spontaneously. I solve this by booting once from Windows. Shut down and reboot from OSX again.
   
   This is not a major problem, but it would be nice to know why and how to solve it.
3. The third issue is that now and then, after boot, I don't get a connection with my network and therefor no internet. However, on the System Preferences Network page it says: "Network Connected".
   
   I solve this by simply restarting the system. 9 times out of 10 I regain network connection after reboot.
   
   My network is completely wired and all 3 systems network cards have a manual network IP address.
   
   My network is via a fast ethernet network HUB behind the modem.

Any help will be much appreciated.

With respect to #1, just about every time you update the OS, you have to run the latest MultiBeast, selecting only the your motherboard's audio chipset driver/kext. That's pretty much Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

I posted this in another thread, but I'm gonna ask here as well in case anyone here had the issue:

I'm having issues with sleep not working on this board (GA-Z87x-ud3h, i7 4770k GTX 760).

Whenever I go to sleep, it wakes up within 1 second, then it comes on with no display unless i press a button and tries to go to sleep again. If I at any point press a button, the display comes back.

Wake up reason is listed as XHC.

I have tried: Unplugging everything except monitor cable. This includes mouse, keyboard, ethernet. Still happens.
BIOS wake on lan is DISABLED.

Happens in both F7 and F8 BIOS.

Any more tips for what I can try?

To me it looks like a USB device is waking the computer up again, but I have no usb devices attached. So could it be a faulty USB hub on the motherboard?

Hello! Sorry for the late reply, I was caught up with things. Hope that it didn't delay things too much for ya!

1. Yes you can install Mavericks directly. Download it free from the App Store!

2. Yes you can follow my guide exactly the way it is.

3. If you want to use the internal graphics skip 3.4 and 3.5 under initial bios configuration. Do take a look at http://www.tonymacx86.com/user-buil...-build-core-i7-4770k-ga-z87x-ud3h-hd4600.html though, he uses the HD4600.

4. For the softwares, I only made reference to the ones provided by tonymacx86.com (this site), so just head to the download section and get the latest ones! It shouldn't matter.

5. Try to buy from a reputable brand, they tend to have much higher quality ram which lasts longer. Always read reviews from Amazon/Newegg etc before purchasing and do a quick google search for potential issues. Corsair is a very safe option to go with. Btw, if you do get RAM remember to change the X.M.L. profile in the BIOS if need be. The motherboard will automatically detect the correct profile but you'll have to change it from default manually. The RAM will work regardless, but you get slightly better performance if you change the profile.

6. You'll experience a lot of trouble for a beginner, so I suggest you set a side a lot of time for this. Have another laptop beside you to do search. If you're stuck, boot safe mode and verbose mode, -x -v, and you can usually fix a lot of errors by going to disk utility in safe mode and fixing disk permissions. But once you get it up and running it's going to be pretty stable.

Hi again, sorry for late reply but I finally have all my parts (except video card which I will not get until later on) and can finally start building the machine.

couple more questions;

1. I noticed that there is a newer bios version (F8) for the Z87X-UD3H, should I update the board to that version? or stick with F7? (btw Ive never flashed a bios before; and I downloaded both F7 and F8 just in case, but do I simply double click the downloaded file after installing windows7? or is there a way to update bios before installing win7?)

2. This will be a dual boot machine (I bought 2 SSD's; one for win7 and one for osx) and I noticed on gigabytes Z87X-UD3H page that there are lots of different drivers and utilities... Which drivers and/or utilities should I install? (Im concerned that if I install/update something that you dont have on yours, then my build may not work properly?)
