My HackBook pro (HP ProBook 4540s) was working flawlessly since Nov 27, 2013 when I bought the hardware.
All of the sudden, on Dec 28, 2013, my HackBook Pro would no longer boot.
Instead, the CAPS LOCK key would flash continuously (there was no obvious pattern to the flashing LEDs) and there would be no Video displayed (a black screen).
The only way to shutdown the machine was to take the battery out. Holding down the power button would not do anything.
Long story short, I called HP Support (North America: 1-800-334-5144) and got a human on the phone.
They took down my information and HP hardware info. They sent me a pre-paid shipping box with styrofoam inserts. I packed my computer and shipped the system back to them free of charge via UPS.
That was Friday. I got my system back today (Tuesday). The Mac OS X partition has remained untouched. They replaced my motherboard free of charge and swapped the power brick. My system has been restored to the way it was before it died.
Just wanted to share this experience, as it did not cost me 1¢
