Ok, I installed windows. When the laptop goes to sleep the power button flashes. That doesn't happen at all in OSX so the computer isn't entering sleep.

Did you remove the unrecognized WiFi card yet?

I enabled hybrid graphics in BIOS and I can boot normally in OSX with no problem, is there any way to try and get the dedicated graphics to work (just for experiment)?

No. Switched graphics do not work on OS X.

I can't turn bluetooth off (I don't even know if it works)

Normal for Atheros BT.

HDMI out works, but not VGA

Normal.

I couldn't find the wifi card, apparently it isn't anywhere easy to access. I'll have to look into it when I have lots of time to take it all apart

Download the service manual from HP.com.

OK, from what I see in HP's "Product End-of-Life Disassembly Instructions" the wifi card seems to be a little 2x3cm ca. card.

Well, it seems to be that one. It's wlan+bluetooth (Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565) - , i didn't think it would be so small. Anyway I took it out. What's next?

Do you still have issues with entering sleep?

It could be DSDT problem. Next step would probably be to start debugging DSDT _PTS method.
I found a guide, but it seems a bit too difficult for me
