Guys, just wondering if anyone point me in the right direction. Decided I needed a new challenge so I bought a Lenovo Ideapad U430. very nice aluminum chassis with 1600 x 900 touchscreen (Intel 4400) and Haswell i5 with a builtin Ethernet connector. Pulled the hard drive and put in a 250GB Samsung EVO SSD. I disabled UEFI for Legacy boot in the BIOS and fired up the Unibeast Mavericks flash drive. As expected it fell at the first hurdle. Got to the grey Apple logo screen and did a reboot. I searched the forum and found Rehabman's patches for early Haswell / Mavericks reboot problems

http://www.tonymacx86.com/mavericks...-locked-msrs-hp-envy-15-j063cl-i7-4700mq.html

I made the patches and got past the reboot. Now I'm stuck with a waiting on Root Device and it looks like it is the RTL8168 Ethernet which is causing the problem. There is no way to disable the ethernet in the BIOS so I'm wondering if there is anyway to bypass the RTL8168 check during the unibeast boot so that I can at least get some kind of install going?

This one is probably a lost cause but the U310 and U410 seemed to hackintosh pretty well so I had high hopes.

I've attached a screenshot of the failure. Any advice / pointers gratefully accepted.

Thanks

"Still waiting for root..." is not indicative of a problem with Ethernet. The system is trying to mount root (eg. volume for '/'), in the case of booting from USB, is on your USB stick. I suggest you re-create your Unibeast USB using the latest Unibeast. And do not select the USB rollback (USB legacy?) when you do.

Thanks Rehabman. I've just downloaded a fresh mavericks and will redo Unibeast. Yes I did check the Legacy USB in the first one because in the BIOS when you disable UEFI is shows support for legacy drives. i assumed I needed the Legacy USB so checked it. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'll keep a note of everything and if successful make a guide. This U430 is a very nice little laptop and would make a worthy hackintosh, I think.

Rehabman. That did it. Thanks. Had to do the patch again to stop the reboot, but I'm now installing after formatting the new SSD. One thing that is really strange is the the system is on hyperspeed. The little spinning thing is almost a blur is is moving so fast and I was unable to type in the name of the partition as Machintosh. Soon as I touched the M key a row of 10 Ms appeared. Typing Mac just ran letter right out of the box. Plugged in an external keyboard and tried and same thing. The system is definitely juiced :) Can't say I've ever seen anything like that before on any previous builds I've done. It's installing at the minute so I'll see what happens when it finishes.

There is a problem in various boot loaders making the system timer run too fast... Try Chameleon. I read the problem is fixed there. Otherwise try Enoch branch of Chameleon. And Clover works too, if your up for that.

Will do but at the minute it looks like the install has hung at 16 mins to go. I'll leave it for a while to see if it completes but looking a bit suspect at the minute.

Nope it completed. System timer is more of a pain than I thought. I was attempting to change the mach_kernel as per your instructions in the link above but I can't type the instruction in terminal. Too many letters come out. That means I can't use the hard disk boot as it has the vanilla mach-kernal. Close but no cigar.

Yeah. Install a different bootloader on the Unibeast USB. Both Chameleon and Chimera had this problem at one point, but I think the latest Chameleon has it fixed (from what I read). Eventually, Chimera will pick up the fixes.

OK thanks. Not sure how to do this but will search it out.

Thanks for the link. I checked it out and download the package. Still kinda screwed though. I need to change the mach_kernel so I can boot into OSX but with terminal on hyperdrive I can't type in the commands. I can't manually install Chameleon again because Terminal is stuffed. Only option I think is removing the drive, hooking it to my mac and manually copying over mach_kernel. That could get me to boot and set up Mavericks. Problem would be typing in a password but even a string of aaaaaaaa would do. I'll give it a shot. Unfortunately having to do it this way will kill the hackintosh for many people.
