How about this?

The only way I am aware of that can add proper stereo + microphone + volume control to a Hackintosh. One 4 pole Apple compatible connector just like on a real Mac.

After I could not find anything about this device Aureon 7.1 USB Soundcard I can confirm that it is working fine out of the box. Also the Volume slider is working fine in OS-X. And finally no more "popping" sound from my Realtek onboard crap card.

No doubt, the Asus Xonar U7 will work, but the buttons and the volume adjustment on it is questionable.... On my Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 USB card these things doesn't work, so I have to adjust volume directly on the speaker's amplifier (5.1 set with optical connection). In OSX the volume adjusment is tricky in this case, for example the volume adjusment on Youtube or in VLC player doesn't work, but in iTunes it's working. A found an application called Soundflower which can adjust volume in any case, but unfortunately it's very unstable in most case.

Hey balazs631.could u please confirm for me if the Asus Xonar U3 works on mac osx mountain lion 10.8? I would like to buy it but i am seeing u guys saying that the volume sliders in osx doesn't work..Could u please explain?thank you

I have ordered the Asus Xonar U7 before I found this thread. I have an Asus Xonar in the computer as PCI-express, but it only works in Windows of course. So I was set on a very specific thought on what I wanted in terms of quality and kick out of music and video editing.

I'll let you all know how it goes when it arrives and I've had a couple of hours or days with it.

hey buddy I have ordered the Syba SD-CM-UAUD USB..And i must say its the best choice i have ever made..The quality on that thing is really awesome..it rivals my sound blaster audigy 2 on windows..And it works seamlessly with mac osx lion, mountain lion, and mavrericks..I am running mavericks right now And i have great audio coming from it now..U just plug it in and u are good to go right off the bat..So u should check that out also.

The Xonar U7 arrived today. The audio is, as far as I can hear, just as good as the Asus Xonar DX which is a PCI-express card that I used previously.

I'm stunned! In Windows I had to install a set of drivers and software to get it going, but it was plug-and-play on the Mac. Perfect!

The volume knob on top of the device works. The microphone volume button on the front does not though. So there's no way to up the mic volume. At least not in System Preferences.

Try the Audio MIDI setup app that you will find via Launchpad > Others. Selecting the right item (if OS X recognises it) and making some changes may do the trick.
