OK So I found out that the 15/16fps issue is due to a driver limitation in OSX itself, capping the pixel clock frequency at 165MHz which prevents higher frame rates from being displayed. Supposedly 10.9 (Mavericks) has removed this limitation, but for those seeking a workaround for Mountain Lion (10.8.X), someone has made a patch, available here:

I have yet to try it myself, but will be giving it a shot later today. Anyone else out there trying, please post your results.
I use Mavericks 10.9. Can I use the patch successfully with 10.9?
You should be able to get hidpi out of the box with mavericks.
I had a big shuffle at my house and moved some computers around. An SSD crashed on me while figuring this all out and things were in disarray, so I got a new SSD and installed my system with Mavericks instead of 10.8.5. The pleasant surprise I got was that hidpi was already working right from the installer and on.
The downside is that original native resolutions are gone now, so if I want to switch to 1080p for gaming, it isn't available, only the HiDPI version which is 3840x2160 @ 30Hz. Now I'm looking for a tool that will allow me to turn hidpi on or off. This really should be inside the OSX preferences, not a developer tool, as it affects normal usability.
Your mileage may vary however. I'm on a GTX780. What card are you using?
If you are using a HDMI V1.4a spec cable, then adjust your plist. to the desired resolution:

To enable HDMI audio:

What edit were you suggesting in the plist re resolution? I don't have anything about resolution in mine.
Thanks
