OK So I found out that the 15/16fps issue is due to a driver limitation in OSX itself, capping the pixel clock frequency at 165MHz which prevents higher frame rates from being displayed. Supposedly 10.9 (Mavericks) has removed this limitation, but for those seeking a workaround for Mountain Lion (10.8.X), someone has made a patch, available here:

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1651886

I have yet to try it myself, but will be giving it a shot later today. Anyone else out there trying, please post your results.

I use Mavericks 10.9. Can I use the patch successfully with 10.9?

You should be able to get hidpi out of the box with mavericks.

I had a big shuffle at my house and moved some computers around. An SSD crashed on me while figuring this all out and things were in disarray, so I got a new SSD and installed my system with Mavericks instead of 10.8.5. The pleasant surprise I got was that hidpi was already working right from the installer and on.

The downside is that original native resolutions are gone now, so if I want to switch to 1080p for gaming, it isn't available, only the HiDPI version which is 3840x2160 @ 30Hz. Now I'm looking for a tool that will allow me to turn hidpi on or off. This really should be inside the OSX preferences, not a developer tool, as it affects normal usability.

Your mileage may vary however. I'm on a GTX780. What card are you using?

I'm using the integrated Intel HD 4600. It should be able to push UHD at 24 Hz.

What edit were you suggesting in the plist re resolution? I don't have anything about resolution in mine.

Thanks
Rob

Check your motherboard specification details for maximum resolutions for the TV/monitor input that you will use. This thread is for the 4k Seiki screen with 3840x2160x32 resolution. That would translate to;

<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>3840x2160x32</string>

My motherboard does not support these resolutions, ensure that yours does before you attempt this. A suitable GPU could be used as an option for greater graphics power.

I have just ordered Gigabyte GTX 660, hopefully to get better refresh rate (30 Hz instead of 16 Hz). It is also capable of 60 Hz over Displayport with future TV/display.

So i have a very similar setup. I have a 4770k with a GA-Z87Z-UD5H and i just bought the Seiki 39" 4k TV. Everything is running using the integrated Intel HD 4600 on Mavericks 10.9.1. Even the tv firmware is updated. I booted with Windows and instantly had 3840x2160@30hz via HDMI, no problem. I booted via mac and i cant get anything more than 1920x1080@60hz. I cant even get 120hz at 1080p. I just ordered the Accell B086B-003B UltraAV DisplayPort 1.1 to HDMI 1.4 Active Adapter. I heard that mac OS cant broadcast 4k via hdmi unless its tricked to think its via displayport, something of a driver issue. I tried using switchresX but it seems like its faux-4k. My tv is still displaying a res of 1080@60hz. Has anyone had a similar problem or could guide me to a fix. Thanks

So my UltraAV DisplayPort 1.1 to HDMI 1.4 Active Adapter cable arrived. I connected it and i got all 3 monitors displaying. 2 1080p and 1 seiki 4K. I am still getting only an option of max 1080p for the seiki. is there a driver issue? i cant even get 1440p, or 2560p. I know its not hardware as it runs perfect on windows. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. :(

Im having the same problem except I am only getting 14hz and lots of artifacts. I just ordered the Gigabyte GTX 660 too, did that get it up and running for you?
