Hi, I just purchased the DVD drive listed under accessories in Tonymacx86's buying guide, because I thought it had burn support. Turns out it is unsupported. Where could I find a DVD drive that has burn support for my Hackintosh? This is crucial for my system. (I bought the Optiarc drive, not the Blu-Ray one)

The optiarc supports burn if you bought the 5820S model. I find this app https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/21992/burn works well for me.

You say the 5820S model supports burn. I bought the 7280S, as that was what was linked to in the buyer's guide. In Disk Utility, the drive is listed as Burn Support: Unsupported. Also, by the 5820S, I searched for it on Amazon and it returned no results, perhaps you mean the 5280S?...

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry for dyslexic fingers - this one - http://www.amazon.com/Optiarc-Burner-Drive-Overburn-5280S-CB-PLUS/dp/B0086ZU8XK/

also this one works well - http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-DVR-218L-DVD%C2%B1RW-Drive-LabelFlash/dp/B002GQ1NPW/ - it is what I have in my -UD7 build.

i was suggested to buy this one:
LiteOn IHAS124-04

[AMAZON-uk]http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009GV7ZQG/[/AMAZON-uk]

i got it and going to install into my first build next few days, then can report back if burn will be supported.

If you could do that that would be awesome... thanks.

confirmed my LiteOn IHAS124-04 it's recognized from mavericks 10.9 as supported "generic"

Lite-On used to make these for Sony (7280S) Because they took the Sony label off of them
we all save a good amount of money on the exact same DVD drive. :)

These 2 work, but the Asus one makes an ugly scraping noise every 10 minutes or so unles you leave a disc in the tray.

if you look in the left bottom corner of window your 2 dvd-rw models are seen the same as my lite-on… Burn Support: Unsupported
it seems that they work indipendently from how disk utility recognizes the devices

Yeah, it may say unsupported, but I can guarantee you they work with the burn function in DU and with the free app Burn and with Toast.
