First Time Hackintosher! HELP!

Hi, I recently built my first computer a couple months ago.
Here's my specs:
-GIGABYTE GA-Z77-DS3H
-EVGA GTX 650 Ti Boost Superclocked 2GB
-Intel Core i5-3470
-WD Blue 1TB (Storage)
-Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB SSD (Windows 7 installed)
-Rosewill N900PCE Wireless Adapter

Now, I've been watching videos and reading threads about hackintoshing way before I built my computer. That's why most of my components should be compatible. But I still had a couple of questions that I couldn't find the answers to.

Here are my questions:
1. Would I be able to shrink my Storage drive and put Mavericks on that partition? Would it work?

2. Are there specific settings I should have on my mobo other than setting everything to AHCI?

3. My CPU doesn't have the intel hd 4000 graphics but is it okay to download mavericks with my graphics card already installed (using Unibeast)?

4. Lastly, I have to get Mavericks from a friend of mine because I don't own a Mac. Is it possible for my friend to use the download app after I've made my UniBeast flash drive?

Please Back up your storage drive before attempting this..

you can shrink your storage drive in Windows and designate the new partition for your Mac install.

You will be able to format this new partition in OSX using Disk Utility

• select your storage drive
• select the Partition tab and then click onto your newly designated Mac partition
• hit the Erase tab and this will allow you to name and format your Mac partition to Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

2. Are there specific settings I should have on my mobo other than setting everything to AHCI?

Update your BIOS to F9 (if you haven't done this already) and follow thelostswedes post for BIOS settings;

in addition to those BIOS settings, i recommend that you disable Internal CPU PLL Overvoltage otherwise your USB devices will not wake after sleep.

Here's how you locate it;
M.I.T. > Advanced Frequency Settings > Advanced CPU Core Features > Internal CPU PLL Overvoltage > Disabled

3. My CPU doesn't have the intel hd 4000 graphics but is it okay to download mavericks with my graphics card already installed (using Unibeast)?

discrete graphics were a late entry to the Hackintosh game if i recall so of course your GTX 650Ti should be installed for prior to installing OS X. Your GFX card does not need an enabler (works as GraphicsEnabler=No) however if you get a blank black screen during install then see this post

if you do not have access to a Mac then you can always purchase a copy of Snow Leopard Retail DVD from the Apple Store and follow the iBoot for Ivybridge guide

Do not share your app with your friend ! - follow this advice from forum moderator Stork

The easiest way to use your girlfriend's laptop to download Mavericks (see below for Mountain Lion) is:

1. Open the App Store application, create an account for you (if you have an account, log in), then download Mavericks;
2. It will open automatically when it finishes downloading - quit the installer at this point;
3. Download the latest UniBeast for Mavericks and run it to create your UniBeast USB thumb drive;
4. Eject the UniBeast USB thumb driver and delete your Mavericks installer in the /Applications folder on your girlfriend's laptop;
5. Now have your girlfriend log into the Mac App Store and download Mavericks;
6. Again quit the Mavericks installer when it pops up;
7. Use the Disk Utility to repair permissions on the laptop;
8. Backup her laptop drive;
9. Run the Maverickers installer; and
10. Upon completion of installing Mavericks over her Snow Leopard installation, again run repair permissions.

The important strategy to take away from the above, is that now you and she are on record for owning Mavericks.

You can still buy Mountain Lion, but you'll have to buy it from the Apple Store, not the MAS. You'll have to follow a similar procedure as I outlined above to download Mountain Lion. If you take this approach, which is IMO better for your girlfriend's laptop, then download (see the link below for more information) and upgrade her laptop with Mountain Lion first. I have not had any problems ever upgrading over an existing OS X - but backup up her system, first!

First of all,

for answering my questions!!! (especially the last one)

So I checked and my mobo had BIOS F9 already. Then I applied all the settings that the link you gave me instructed. (except disabling Wake on Lan because I couldn't find it) Oh and I also did the extra step you provided.

About the last part though..
So if my friend doesn't want to download mavericks yet, then do I just do steps 1-4 and get off his computer and let him just sign back into his app store account (so he can do it later or whatever)?
And one more thing..
The one that is helping me has mountain lion right now (I think) but if he can't help, I would have to ask my friend who recently got the new macbook pro with mavericks already installed. Do you know if you can download the mavericks app if you already have mavericks on your macbook pro?

Yeh steps 1 - 4 is the way to go

I too have never seen Wake on Lan in the BIOS of my DS3H but not proved a problem

..Do you know if you can download the mavericks app if you already have mavericks on your macbook pro?

i don't yet own a Macbook ( but some day ..) however even though i have Mavericks installed on my Customac, it is still listed in the Mac App Store and instead of showing the price (free), it is listed as "Installed".

If i click the "installed" indicator (formerly labelled free) then App Store will give me a pop up to say you already have Mavericks installed and ask me if i wish to install OS X Mavericks (Continue or Cancel) so i would expect the same for you too.

Don't worry, this downloads the "Install OS X Mavericks" installer and does not install Mavericks onto your machine because users may wish to perform all manner of custom setup options (e.g, reformatting, partitioning etc,) before installing.


Lastly, i forgot to advise you before you install Mavericks to disconnect your Windows boot drive (in your case - your SSD) and i recommend that you only have your keyboard, mouse, speakers and screen connected during the install process. This stops other peripherals causing kernel panics during the install process.

When you have Mavericks up and running, you will need to make OS X the priority boot drive in your BIOS setup and use the Chimera bootloader to switch between OSX and Windows;

Win7 + OS X on separate hard drives

Installing on separate hard drives is easy. It does not matter which you install first.
Boot to BIOS and set SATA ports to AHCI, power saving mode to S3, enable HPET and set it to 64 bit mode. Save and exit.

Install Win7, update it get it working 100%. Shutdown, disconnect the Win7 drive.

Connect the OS X drive, install OS X, update it, get it working. Shut down.

Reconnect the Win7 drive. Boot to BIOS and make the OS X drive first in hard drive boot order in BIOS. Save&Exit and continue to boot to Chimera time out screen.

Hit a key to boot Win7, select System Reserved icon (only if you installed Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 7 Business and Windows 7 Enterprise) or the Windows NTFS icon and hit enter. If you would rather the boot process stop and let you select which OS to boot, select Instant Menu in MultiBeast to install.

Well I checked my friend's Macbook air today (the one who I THOUGHT had Mountain lion) and it seems that he already upgraded to mavericks too. But it was weird cause he didn't have a download mavericks app in his application folder. Plus, when I went into the app store as his account, the mavericks app didn't say "installed" instead it said "download" so I was a bit confused. Anyways, I'll still try the method (steps 1-4) and see if it works.

Oh and btw, I have two monitors running at the moment (both plugged into my Graphics card). Should I plug one out and do all this or can I keep it on?
And should I do the extra settings that the quote you showed me instructed? (like "power saving mode to s3 and enable HPET and set it to 64 bit mode..."

Lastly, I saw that you have the same mobo as me. Is there a way you can show me all the things I need to check on Multibeast?

the main thing is that the option to download exists so you go ahead with the methods (steps 1 - 4) and see for yourself.

definitely stick to one monitor until OS X installed and your install is booting from hard drive. You can add the second monitor afterward.

Stick to the BIOS settings which we have covered already for the 7-series motherboards and ignore those now legacy BIOS settings mentioned in GoingBald's old post.

Lastly, I saw that you have the same mobo as me. Is there a way you can show me all the things I need to check on Multibeast?

Hey! Thanks again Robbish!

Now I'm almost done preparing my Unibeast drive and I had a couple more questions before installing. (sorry!)

1. I currently have my main monitor connected with a hdmi cable. Would it have any issues when I use this monitor when downloading mavericks? and would sound work with it?

2. And, my main monitor is 1080p but my second one isn't (I use it vertically and it's an older lcd display, (1680x1050) connected with a dvi cable) so should I just not check the 1080p display mode when I use Multibeast?

3. I have to boot with GraphicsEnabler=No on my first boot right? Do I have to do that everytime I boot?

4. I heard there was a thing called a boot0 error. Am I likely to get it? how do I fix it if I do?

for question 1 yes it will work no on the sound(without a tweek in the sound settings)
for question 2 you are probably best to use 1 monitor on install than set it up later(after os install)
for question 3 its reccomended ge=no on nvidia 6xx and 7xx cards in mavericks
for question 4 the boot0 error is for 4k(advanced format)drives nowadays anything over 500gb
there is a workaround for that ....

Okay,
So I finally created my Unibeast drive and tried to install OS X Mavericks but I got stuck.
So, I shrunk my partition on my storage drive and was going to use that partition for mavericks.
When I got into the installer with my Unibeast drive, I erased my partition (mac extded journaled) on disk utility.
However, when I went to select the partition to install it to, my intended partition had a yellow exclamation point on it saying that "it must be a GUID partition," so I went back to disk utility and saw that that option wasn't available for partitions. It was only available for the drive..
So does this mean I have to reformat the whole drive into two partitions and backup all of my stuff on my current storage drive for windows 7?
Or should I just buy a new drive and do it? (If I did this I'd probably get a hard drive with sata ii because I don't have anymore sata iii ports on my mobo)
Or is there a way to change my partition into GUID???

really (for me) i find doing install on a fresh hd is the best.
im not a fan of partitioning hd for multiple os's.......
if u follow tony's steps install is a breeze(remove any hd's just the one for install)..
u can put drives back in after install and use boot loader to select hd...
i have osx ,windows 7 ,ubuntu 13.10 on all my builds(separate drives)


im a little fuzzy on the partition route but do a search on site i believe there is a procedure,and an order of which os gets installed first(if u must partition hd)... note:back up data!!!!!!!(u loose stuf if u make mistakes)
