LCC = Logitech Control Center.

It is the system preferences control for how logitech mice and keyboards.

Hmmm LCC installed, system rebooted, am now getting the message "No Logitech Device Found" in LCC. I suspect this means i need specific drivers for my mouse and keyboard? (LX 710) but I can't find them anywhere. Any ideas?

Thanks

No Logitech Device Found

used to mean the daemon didn't load I can only assume it is the same now.

Maybee it didn't install properly

Thanks... will try reinstalling later and let you know how I get on :)

Reinstalled LCC, still giving me the same message. I think my keyboard and mouse must be too old for it to recognise them.

It's changed result a little in terms of the freezes now, though. Instead of just hanging, it's now seeming to almost soft reset the system - all apps are killed and finder restarts. Very odd!

OK update time.

I've had 4 crashes this evening, and after each one I've checked the logs in console. It seems the process WindowServer is crashing and causing it to freeze up in the way I've been seeing.

I've done some searching and found a thread on the Apple support forums filled with people who were experiencing the same problem on the retina macbook pro. It was narrowed down to a conflict with the nvidia graphics driver.

Not entirely sure where to go from here, apart from possibly attempting a total reinstall and/or going back to mountain lion.

Completely un-scientific conclusion that it may indeed be my beloved Google Chrome browser that's causing the periodic freezing glitch. Watching closely the Activity Monitor after launching Chrome reveals the PepperFlashPlayer (Chrome Plug-In) is not responding (red) and Google Chrome Helper is also not responding (red). Force quitting Chrome seems to do my system very well in terms of glitch/freeze reduction. That sucks because Chrome has been my mainstay of internet surfing for years and years. Guess I go over to Safari. We'll keep watch on Chrome updates and hopefully they can get this fixed. Bummer
Great stuff, I will try to keep Chrome away from my system, maybe that will fix the freeze problem.

This is turning into an interesting one with several avenues of exploration. I deleted chrome a couple of days ago and was still experiencing multiple freezes and crashes. I've subsequently found a couple of threads elsewhere from users of genuine Macs who reported that it seemed to be VLC which was causing their identical slowdowns. Last night I deleted VLC and I've been using my computer for the last 6 hours pretty non-stop and (touch wood) I've had zero crashes or slowdowns today.

Nice! I will make a clean install tomorrow with all the drivers etc. and make a stability test with no 3rd-party software installed.

Update time!

It's been absolutely fine all day, until 40 minutes ago. Since then I've had 2 identical crashes. Looking at the crash report on Console, it would APPEAR to be graphics-related as it mentions GeForceGLDriver in connection with both crashes. The odd thing is that all the heavy graphics-based stuff I was doing finished about half an hour before the first crash!

The mystery deepens...
