IMPORTANT! How to update from 10.8.x to 10.9.x!

DSDT doesn't matter.

Be certain fast boot is disabled in BIOS.

I did before I started upgrade. I could try to redo the Unibeast stick and see if it will reboot from that. But it seems pointless.

During installation process of OS X it is possible to get a CMOS reset so you should check again.

It's not selected.

Then I'm out of ideas. You might try this, just to give more information about what is happening. Since you have only one partition on the HDD, we cannot tell if Chimera is not able to see the entire disk, or is rejecting the specific partition on the disk. Use your ML Unibeast USB to install ML to a separate partition... see if you run into the same issue.

I had to resort to my back up disk. I CCCloned it to the problem disk and then ran DiskWarrior to rebuild directories. Then I used a different USB to create the Unibeast 3.0.0 installer. This worked and I was able to boot up with -f. I ran into a spinning beach ball, however. So, I forced a reboot and typed the -f flag again. This time the 4530s rebooted fine and I was able to run Probook installer.

All good. Thanks for your suggestions!

Glad you got it figured... even if we don't quite understand what happened...

Just to let you know that so far so good, I have followed the guide to update my 4530s. All worked. the front left USB port worked for me. On first restart after install I managed to get to the login page, then the system froze. Started again, it hanged on the apple logo far too long, so I started again and third time was good, ran Probook Install, restarted and all went well... Thanks RehabMan!

After a few hours using 10.9, I had my first random system freeze. Something that used to happen quite often before 10.8.5 (this last version seemed to have sorted the problem). It only happened once but does anybody experience this?

I haven't had any yet. Are you sure it was frozen? Did you try sleep? Was the clock still updating?
