If you are considering updating to 10.9 from 10.8.x, please remember the sticky guide contains not only a guide the initial install, but also a guide for updates. It includes a section with special instructions to update to Mavericks from Mountain Lion.

The sticky guide for installing Mavericks on ProBook is here:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/hp-probook-mavericks/112380-guide-installing-mavericks-hp-probook.html

Look for the Updates section.

Follow it. It will keep you out of trouble.

I followed the instructions for an upgrade for 4530s, however, I am stuck here:

4. After Mavericks installs, it will restart your computer. After it restarts, you will need to once again hit Esc then F9. Then select the USB hard drive again. This time, select the partition you just installed Mavericks on, type "-f" then press enter.

I only have the OX X Mavericks install option and the Windows option. The partition on which OSX is updated is not visible.

Any thoughts?

Boot into the Mavericks installer, go into Disk Utility, and get a screen shot. Does Disk Utility see the partition? Is it healthy? Try to repair it?

Also, how old is your bootloader? Not that it should matter, because you should be using the bootloader on the Unibeast at that point.

Perhaps you're not booting via the Unibeast stick at that point?

I did this already. The OSX partition is healthy. I did repair it anyway to be sure. I have the latest Chameleon that came with next to last iteration of Probook installer.

I just can't see the OSX partition with my Unibeast stick? Should I recreate it? It has the laptop option but not the legacy USB, which I don't think is needed here.

I can boot into Windows and I can view the OSX drive (I have the software for this.)

The one anomaly that I did notice during the install was some error message with the BIOS. I pressed the power switch then it and it booted normally. But I had no OSX partition.

Then I reinstalled the upgrade and it went normally. But again, on reboot, no OSX partition.

Thanks!

You just did re-create your Unibeast stick, right? It is the first thing you must do to upgrade to Mavericks.

What do you mean "during the install"? At what stage and what was the error message, and what software was displaying the message?

You should be booting not "normally", but using your Unibeast USB (just made with current Unibeast for Mavericks).

Re-installed what "upgrade"? You mean you re-installed Mavericks?

If you are booting from your hard disk, and have not upgraded your bootloader in a while, it is possible you have a version of Chameleon (on your HDD) that does not recognize 10.9. Chameleon will not show partitions that are HFS+J and have a version of OS X that it does not recognize.

The BIOS error I saw was "The HP BIOS application selected is corrupt or missing. Please install the application and try again.

BIOS Application Error (501)

The BIOS application error message appeared after Maverick had completed its initial install and rebooted. I don't think this is the problem, just an anomaly. It has happened twice thus far. Once as described and once as I exited Maverick while examining the OSX drive.

As mentioned earlier, I used the Unibeast stick made on another Mac. I did not forget to press Esc/F9. When I did that, the OSX partition failed to appear as expected.

Probably CMOS reset problem, which is a problem until you get patched AppleRTC in place.

Was the Unibeast stick made with the latest version of Unibeast?

BIOS does not show partitions. It shows devices. You then select the Unibeast USB device to boot from, and Chimera loads. Chimera shows you the partition on your USB as well as the partitions on your HDD at that point.
