Updated the list.

I am also wondering about the R9 280X. It looks like it should work...

Hello All!

I have been using my old Nvidea 8800gts as primary boot card and so far everything is fine. But I want to use the alternative involving screen rotation. I was going to try that but I noticed I dont get the white screen anymore but screen with apple logo and circle rotating which freezes later.

Can anyone help me?

Thanx

Unless Im missing something, this entire thread is dedicated to "List of Confirmed Radeon HD 7xxx Series (10.8.3+)".

You are referring to an NVIDIA card, I do not understand, you are posting in the wrong place. o_O

Great question, Id love to know the answer to that myself.

Well to hell with it - I needed a new card anyway (BF4 yeah baby), so I'll be testing this problem myself in a couple of days. I bought the Asus R9 280x DCu2 top, basically the "new" 7970 GHz edition, although not everyone is certain this is truly a 1:1 chip as there is apparently an unexplainable 20W lower consumption under load, with the same or even higher (1200mV) voltage. Could be that the rumor that it's identical was spread to get rid of the old 7970 stocks... ;)

I'll report back as soon as I get it and have it installed.
I expect it won't work, but hopefully someone brighter than me in the area of DSDT's (or maybe simply kext) will be willing to lend a hand :)

Nice. I did read that R9 280x cards are X-Fire compatible along side a 7970, perhaps that might be an indication that theyll work the same in OSX?

Wondering if anyone has tried 10.9 yet. I'm downloading now and will be installing it in a bit after I get some work done. I'll report back with my findings

I'm positively surprised.

My R9 280x works OOB, no kext editing, no nothing.
Everything works from boot onward, integrated GPU is now entirely off.
The only setting I kept from my original HD4600 setup was the forced initial resolution of 1080p (not even sure whether this is necessary, but it sure doesn't hurt).

Card: Asus R9280X-DC2T-3GD5
System: 10.9

Correction: everything works, including HDMI audio, my settings in the display were all funky ;)

Now my Sapphire HD 7750 LP works together with HD3000.

The Radeon is recognized as HD 7xxx, but i get no sound over DisplayPort or HDMI ;( i need this

Have patched my DSDT with MacIAsl still no sound.

is there a workaround or should i investigate in an gtx 650 low profile from zotac ?

greetins....

:) Those are the news I was waiting for, I created a post specifically to know further about this R9 series AMD GPUs and I certainly believe those are the best price you can get for the dollar, furthermore now that Apple goes with AMD it's a win win if it works out of the box. So I am assuming according to what I understand and you have managed, that your R9 280x works as easy as it would be to make work a GTX 780 or whatever Nvidia cards which are the ones that have shown the most straightforward compatibility for the moment? You did not have to do the workaround AMD 7xxx series card need to be done with your 280x so they can work on a hackintosh?

If that is so, those are great news, we could literally buy 2 280x and destroy a GTX 780 performance for the same price.
