OS X 10.8.5 Update

Hy guys,

I just update my hackintosh via combo update (tony's first page link) and Stork info's. Everything is ok, sleep, bluetooth etc, with a little problem: no audio. I try all the things, still no sound...My board: gigabyte p43 - es3g rev 1,3.
Any advice? Cheers.

I had 10.8.4 running on an Asus P8Z8 Deluxe/GEN3 board. Updated to 10.8.5 using the Combo, ran Multibeast to reinstall AppleHDA and TRIM Enabler, rebooted and got kernel panics. Rebooted with -F flag and I was able to get back in. Found out it was the npci=0x3000 option so I removed it from the com.Chameleon.boot.plist and everything rocks (sleep, App Store, Facetime, etc.)

The combo update worked great with the following configuration:

Intel Core i7-3770
Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3P
ASUS NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
IOGear Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter
TP-Link PCI Express Wifi Adapter

As for sound, I use the SSDT to have HDMI sound through a nVidia GTX-660 graphics card, and it also works after the update as it is.

The only thing I did before the update was to remove the GenericUSBXHCI kext installed by MultiBeast, as indicated by many people in the comments. After the update, the USB 3.0 busses were listed in System Information, and I tested a USB 3.0 drive and it worked. USB 2.0 devices didn't work anymore on USB 3.0 ports—although they did on the other USB ports. Installing the GenericUSBXHCI version 1.2.5 kext from http://sourceforge.net/projects/genericusbxhci/, as other people have suggested, resolves this issue.

Apart from updating lots of things, 10.8.5 adds the following under System/Library/Extensions:

  • AppleCameraInterface.kext
  • AppleHSSPIHIDDriver.kext
  • AppleHSSPISupport.kext
  • AppleIntelFramebufferAzul.kext
  • AppleIntelHD5000Graphics.kext
  • AppleIntelHD5000GraphicsGLDriver.bundle
  • AppleIntelHD5000GraphicsVADriver.bundle
  • AppleIntelHSWVA.bundle
  • AppleIntelLpssDmac.kext
  • AppleIntelLpssGspi.kext
  • AppleIntelLpssSpiController.kext
  • AppleTopCase.kext
  • vecLib.kext

Now, System Information shows a new SPI bus—although not present with my motherboard.

The IOAHCIFamily kext doesn't get updated, so I don't see why it'd be necessary to re-apply MultiBeast TRIM Enabler. I've done it anyways and it doesn't change anything under System/Library/Extensions/IOAHCIFamily.kext.

The only issue I have found is that when programs that run in the toolbar are loading, there is a pause of around a minute. Then, the rest of the programs load. I've tried removing iStat Menus and the Apple MRT tool, but it still happens. Recreating the boot cache didn't help either. Also, I've noticed that System Information won't open until this "pause" is finished. The system.log shows this:

Has anyone also had this problem—and maybe found a solution?

10.8.5 Broke my USBIII, and Sound.
After installation, I run Multibeast 5.4.3, with USB3.0 universal drivers just to find out no more USBIII support is available anymore..
We'll have to wait to a new drivers? is there anything else to try?

See Post #2. :thumbup:

Used the combo upgrade, No problem, Boots fine.

Checked out all that worked on 10.8.4 - Only to find USB3.0 no longer works,

Have restored back to 10.8.4 till fix is made available.

Will try again, as Stork suggests in #2, to remove generic kext.

A 2500K + MSI P67A-C43 + Sapphire 6870 Flex from 10.8.4 to 10.8.5 though the combo update worked, but after a little work. I had to go in and remove the AppleIntelCPUPowerMangement.kext and AppleIntelCPUPowerManagementClient.txt from the upgraded installation, and replace them with the AppleIntelCPUPowerMangagement.kext from my previous working 10.8.4 installation.

After that things booted normally. Before I was getting an error about the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext on boot.

I also had a KP with the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement. Where can I get a working kext from the 10.8.4? Unfortunately I don't have a backup with the previous version.

I found the SOLUTION for the BLUETOOTH PROBLEM, posted by user [email protected]
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5304985

Now my Targus (Broadcom based) Bluetooth adapter works fine as before! Some additional detailed help:
First you need to find your bluetooth adapter's info, so open Applications/Utilities/System Information, then scroll to the USB section and check your bluetooth adapter's Product and Vendor ID. Mine is BCM92046DG-CL1ROM:

Product ID: 0x2153
Vendor ID: 0x0a5c

Convert the hexadecimal values to decimal with searching in google. e.g. '0x2153 in decimal'. In my case it's:

Product ID: 8531
Vendor ID: 2652

Now open Finder, choose Go/Go to Folder and paste this location:
/System/Library/Extensions/IOBluetoothFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/BroadcomBluetoothHostControllerUSBTransport.kext/Contents/

Then open the file 'Info.plist' in TextWrangler (https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11009/textwrangler) and scroll down to the bottom of the file. I duplicated this block by copy and paste it back to the file:

<key>BroadcomUSBBluetoothHCIController - Targus</key>
<dict>
<key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>
<string>com.apple.iokit.BroadcomBluetoothHostControllerUSBTransport</string>
<key>IOClass</key>
<string>BroadcomBluetoothHostControllerUSBTransport</string>
<key>IOProviderClass</key>
<string>IOUSBDevice</string>
<key>idProduct</key>
<integer>8532</integer>
<key>idVendor</key>
<integer>2652</integer>
</dict>

Just by replacing idProduct from 8532 to 8531 and save the Info.plist solved the problem after reboot!

Ok did some more tinkering with 10.8.5 on my Asus Rampage IV Gene and got it to boot with -x, but without it I get stuck at

USBF:0.407 AppleUSBECHI::unable to get filterInteruptEventSource
USBF:0.407 AppleUSBECHI::UIMInitialize-Error occurred(0xe0000be)
still waiting on root device.

if anyone could suggest how I go about fixing this, I would be grateful

Has anyone else lost its USBIII after upgrading to 10.8.5. None of the installers in multibeast (5.3.4) can fix this?
