Z77X UD5H with I5-3570k / GTX 650 ASUS / 16 GB RAM / BT IOGEAR 4.0 / MAC Pro 3,1 / HDMI Audio (RT898) / iMessage / App Store

Update from 10.8.4 to 10.8.5 through APP Store. After the update I used MB 5.4.3 to install Audio again.

No issues, also USB works fine.

GA-Z77MX-D3H TH (rev. 1.0) F6b
Followed Stork's instructions, the only issue is the USB3 ports, they will only recognise USB3 pens/storage, after the update. Everything else is working fine.

It didn't work, but seemed to work?
Combo update installer said failed, blah blah blah...
Tried to repair permissions and got some strange error..."Error: Whole disk required but a slice was passed."
Reboot and about this mac says 10.8.5
Ran Multibeast for audio and trim. Rebooted.
Audio worked, about this mac says trim not enabled.
Repaired permissions worked this time.
Re-ran multibeast for trim, repair permissions, reboot.
Seems like everything is working now.

This is on my eHack i3 with GA-H77n-Wifi. I'll wait a week or so before doing the update on my main i5 hack.

You'll need the updated (this afternoon) GenericUSBXHCI.kext for USB to work again. I've updated my Post #2.

I updated to 10.8.5 per Stork's instructions. Got the "installation failed" message for the install but nevertheless the update was installed. Also got installation failed for the Multibeast but the audio is working fine anyway. Don't see any USB issues (yet). The bluetooth works flaky but it was always that way.

Doing the permission repair after the installation I get this error message:

Warning: SUID file “System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Admin.framework/Versions/A/Resources/readconfig” has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Versions/A/Resources/runner” has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file “usr/bin/ipcs” has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file “usr/bin/sudo” has been modified and will not be repaired.

What do these mean? What is a SUID file?

Thanks
David

Will that updated kext work for the UP4-TH as well? I seem to remember the 5 has a different chipset for the USB 3 ports than the 4.

Thanks.

Used combo update, then installed chimera 2.2, then installed updated intel LAN and appleHDA kexts from multibeast. Rebooted and got KP which says "unknown CPU". image attached http://s18.postimg.org/uy1eb5ue1/image.jpg . Can boot into system only by typing -F flag. I suspect chimera caused this. If someone had the same issue, please let us know.

BTW, geekbench score wend down to 14500 points from 15100 while on 10.8.4.

Ok, was able to boot the system without flags, but this time got spinning beach ball! Had to force restart, but got kernel panic again...

My audio also isn't working, I have a gigabyte b75-d3v with 887. I tried reinstalling it multiple times with multibeast and rebooting, and it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

Updated
I recommend the Combo update instead of the store incremental update. My procedure is to
  1. Repair Permissions using the Disk Utility on the drive to be updated;*
  2. Backup your current system with Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper;
  3. If you're using the "USB 3 - Universal" (Zenith432's GenericUSBXHCI.kext), remove it from S/L/E folder**;
  4. Run the Combo Update - don't reboot yet;
  5. Run MultiBeast to reload only the audio driver;
  6. Download the GenericUSBXHCI.kext and install using Kext Utility;
  7. Reboot; and
  8. Repair Permissions again.*

NOTICE: Hawell owners are not having success with this update. Before trying to update, backup your 10.8.4 Haswell Helper system. If the update doesn't work, try a fresh install by
  • restoring your 10.8.4 Haswell Helper installation;
  • go to the MAS and download the Install Mountain Lion app (it's now 10.8.5), using Option-Click on the Purchase menu item;
  • prepare a UniBeast USB thumb drive with the updated UniBeast v2.1; and
  • making sure your backup is current, do a fresh install.
If this doesn't work, restore your 10.8.4 Haswell Helper installation and wait for updating news. Being an early adapter is hell sometimes. One user had success with a fresh install.

* You can use the Terminal instead of Disk Utility if you feel comfortable with a UNIX command:
Code:
sudo diskutil repairPermissions /

** Zenith432's GenericUSBXHCI.kext has been reported to cause Kernel Panels on some motherboards after the update.

Thanks to this now I can completely install the Combo Update without errors.
But the update still broke my USB 3.0 ports and my Targus mini bluetooth 2.0 adapter :(

Here is an old trick that you can do with a d-link DB-122 (If that is not the exact model I will verify, to lazy to go to my office right now) adapter. It uses the same hardware that Apple used. You can actually flash it with the Apple BT firmware and OS X treats it just like it was original Apple BT hardware. I have had the same one over 5 builds since the Core 2 days and it always works. Just a nifty tip from the old days. I still have it running on ML without issue ever.

Edit: It as a DB-120 if you can find one but the later ones may use the same chipset as well, not sure.
