Not sure if this thread is for internal wifi adapters or not, but I purchased a USB one from amazon for under $10 a couple months ago that worked for me in 10.6.8, and then works as well in 10.8.3. Here is a link to the card.

The drivers that came with it did NOT work and I spent hours finding the correct drivers. These are the drivers that worked in both 10.6.8 and 10.8.3.

This thread is for internal cards.

That was on a Dell Inspiron 1545, but I'm in the market and about to purchase a Probook 4540s shortly. I plan on using the adapter for that if I end up with one that doesn't come with a wi-fi card that works out of the box.

Probably your best option is to purchase an internal compatible card from the list in post #1.

Just ordered my 4540s which will arrive in a few days. In the meantime I should get a wi-fi card.

Here's a site in my country with the
AR5B95 but I'm not sure which of them to get.since its not specified. It doesn't say if it is half-size or the model number. Just that it is for Acer, Dell and so on.

You mean that one -- it's definitely half mini pci-e size. And because it is advertised for different laptop brands I think it should be OK in any machine. If the seller has a decent return policy I'd give it a try. If you do, let us know the results, please.

So guys i have an Atheros AR5B97 but in a gateway not a hp can someone help me out on how to make it work?? i have tried a lot of kext files to no avail.

Hi,

I just bought the Atheros AR5BXB112 As described in OP's list (the first full sized card[My laptop's huge])

Here is the link that i bought it from on Amazon (no prime :| )
http://www.amazon.com/AirPort-Extreme-AR5BXB112-Wireless-Dual-band/dp/B009B5A0F0

I will update if it works or not when it arrives. Are there any steps i need to do? Or is it like OP said and works out of the box? Kexts?

Should be here on the between the 13th and 18th:beachball:

AR5BXB112 should work out of box with vanilla OS X IO80211Family.kext. No DSDT nor kext/changes required.

Of course, a full size card will not fit in a ProBook 4x30s or 4x40s, but if your laptop can handle a full size card, then it should work, provided there is not a BIOS whitelist implemented.

Yea, it does support full cards (I made sure by looking at the one my laptop has now). So i should be all good when installing it and whatnot. I suppose i'll make a thread if i do run into any issues.

And I hope my BIOS wont be mad at it (It's a Toshiba Satellite).

Thanks for the help guys! I can't wait to have a fully working Hackintosh

One piece of advice: instead buying a full size card, buy yourself a half size card and a bracket like this one. This way, you can use the card with any laptop, no matter what the size of its miniPCIe slot is (you could install half size card in full size slot, but the opposite is not possible).
