Hello guys,

First time posting on this forum so forgive me if this is not the right section. After hackintoshing my hp dv6-7000 and an AMD desktop of a friend (boy did those take a lot of time) I have switched from trying the almost impossible to a stable system for my work. My setup at the moment: i7 3770K, Gigabyte Z77N-WiFi, 16GB 1600mhz, H100i, corsair cx750m, Galaxy GTX780.

My BitFenix Prodigy case should come soon but here is my question. I do audio production with logic, abelton and reason etc. I would like to have as many screens as possible for my work. So will I be able to use 4 screens in mountain lion 10.8.4? At the moment it is running great on my tv as I didn't have any monitors around. I am running the normal OS X drivers. And if 4 screens doesn't work, how many screens could I use maximum? I have searched and searched and usually I don't post questions anywhere as I can find all the answers I need. Thanks in advanced guys.

EDIT: Sorry guys forgot to mention I will be needing to use adapters as the monitors I am looking at only have DVI and VGA. Will just a simple HDMI to DVI and Display Port to DVI kable work?

You could run 2 monitors using your motherboard DVI-D port and your gfx card DVI-D port. I dont know if DVI to HDMI adapters exist, but as they are both digital signals, theoretically they should. You could use two adapters, and attach one monitor to your gfx card and one to your motherboard.

Not sure if that would work as I am running with nvidia card only and no hd4000 enabled. My nvidia card does have to DVI ports (D and I/D) a display port and an HDMI port. The adapters do exist so I would expect them to work as they dont need drivers. Can anybody confirm 3 or 4 screens on an nvidia 7xx card, or even on a 6xx card?

After looking around a little if I get HD4000 running together with the nvidia card I could run 2 monitors on HD4000 and 2 on my nvidia card I think. As far as I see people have no problem with 2 monitors on a nvidia card and also no problem with 2 monitors on my internal graphics.

EDIT: I talked to a guy from apple and he says that running 4 displays should work off the bat with the gtx 780. I have decided that I have enough ways to try that I will probably be trying out a quad monitor setup soon and I will keep people up to date. Maybe make a guide.

Yes a dual gpu will work for sure but lots of people seem to have problems with running more than 2 displays on 1 nvidia card, even on hd4000. But the good news is my galaxy gtx 780 is running 3 screens at the moment from just the gtx 780. Within 3 days I should have my new monitors in and I will be testing 4 displays on the card. Using both nvidia and hd 4000 works but I rather just have the nvidia card. I'll update ASAP

Great to hear. I knew you could in Windows as that's the main selling point, but was worried that Mac might have issues unless running on Mac hardware, and even then that maybe 3 was the limit.

I'll be confirming here sometime in the next few weeks that 4 monitors will also work with a Gigabyte GTX780 and Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H.

Ah, we've come a long way from the days when you'd have to do hex edits to get a Radeon 6850 to output to more than 2 monitors ;-)

Sorry to dust off an old thread and totally maul it's original purpose here but firstly, I used to run a 6870 and now I know why I couldn't run 3 monitors properly! Thanks lunar7! But, back to topic.

To summarise this all, I am going to be attempting an almost identical build re: motherboard/case/gfx and all, so in the end, did you get 4 monitors running well off the 780? And also, one other question to OP or anyone running the 780; what was needed to get it running well under OSX; did you need any boot flags?

Thanks and sorry to revive this again

Don't worry, I was the one who revived it mostly.

I can confirm I have 4 monitors at 1920x1080 working great with the 780.

Next, I will try to output to the same 4 monitors with another machine running a GTX 660, which is supported in Windows but I think might be a bit trickier to get to work on Mac.
