Hi Doc,

I´ve seen in Your photos that you removed the right-hand back panel of your case at one point of your mod... Could You slip it over the locking-lever just like that, or did You remove that plastic knob first? If You removed it i would like to know how? Seems to be a very tight fit...

Regards, Olli

It's a tight fit, but the knob will pop thru the hole on that panel. and having said that....... I have to say the obligatory.... "That's what she said....." Line ;)

On all the models of G4 the back plastic will slip over that latch. By far the most scary and the tightest fit though is on the Mirror Drive Door. I had everything crossed the first time I pulled the plastic on that one - boy is it tight! The Graphite G4 is an absolute walk in the park compared to the MDD....

Doc,

I'm curious to the details of how you mounted your MLB to the case. Were you able to thread generic standoffs into holes you drilled on the door? I'm trying to find a more elegant solution that JB Welding standoffs down. I wasn't sure if I needed a tap and die or if the properly drilled hole would be sufficient. Could you please explain what you did there? Would you do it differently now?

Hi Duncan,
The mod uses generic threaded standoffs (m3 10mm) which are fixed into position using holes drilled in the door and with nyloc nuts to fix them in place. I developed (and it is on here somewhere!!!) a template that can be used to show where exactly to drill the door to make the standoff positions automatically line up with the PCI slot positions.
'I'll edit this post in a few minutes to link to the template.

I drilled and tapped 6-32 holes in the door and ran 1.5 inch screws from the back and used nylon spacers as standoffs, securing the board with nuts.

Thanks for the quick response for me MiniHack, I saw the update to this topic but I didn't have a chance to respond til now. the nylon threaded locking nuts are ideal for securing the standoffs., and minihack's template is spot on for the proper places to drill for adding the standoffs
