I am confused as to what SMBios device id to use. I have read that using MacPro 5,1 can cause problems as it will be looking for ECC memory. However, this is the only ID that has a 6-core processor. What should I use?

My Hardware:
Asus P9X79 Pro Motherboard

Intel 3930K
XFX HD-6870-CNFC Radeon HD 6870 2GB
SS-1050XM Power Supply
4x8GB DDR3 1600 RAM - 32GB Total
1 IO Crest 2 port FireWire 800 + 1 FireWire 400 PCI-E Card
Apple USB Ethernet Adapter (for second ethernet port)

SATA Devices
1 TB Main System OS Drive
3 1TB SATA 7200 Seagate Barracuda
1 2TB Green Drive Enterprise Time Machine
1 640GB 7200 Hitachi Drive Second OS
1 Lightscribe DVD/CD Superdrive
1 Rosewill RDCR-11004 5.25" Multi-in-1 Internal Card Reader w/ additional USB & SATA ports

Thanks for the reply! I forgot to mention that I will be installing 10.8.4, does that change the answer at all?

No, hardware is still unsupported in 10.8.4. Mac Pro 3,1 is still the generic for unsupported hardware.
