Acer Aspire V5-171 Notebook?

All right my friends!

I started several days ago like a newbie in Hack'ntoshing, this was the first Forum-Thread i found. And there for this is the place i feel myself guilty to reply! Even when i made way more knowledge else-where.

Special Thanks to all of you - especially to Methanoid, who brought this thread up and to part for a long time! (Maybe you ll read this later and can profit from it - then i am happy).

Now, here ist comes .... A FULLY working Hackintosh v5-171 with all you need to just copy paste and get finished!

All you need is EXACTLY this model: V5-171-53314G50ass with the Bios updated to 2.13! (and ML 10.8.3)

If you got this, keep smiling it will work like a charm (tested it on 3 Laptops). "There might be a chance that it works with different Models, but thats not guaranteed. If you get it working with a different model, post me your modelnumber, ill add it to the list!
If you dont have these speccs, it will not work, i know its hard. But without the right model AND bios it won't!

1. Download the zip.file below.
2. Create your Mountain Lion 10.8.3 USB Stick with at least Chameleon 2.2 Bootloader and the downloaded Files.
3. Install Mountain Lion with: -v -x (thank you Methanoiiiiid / and others!)
4. After Installation boot again via USB-Stick, pick your HDD with the fresh ML installation and start it with: -v -x -PCIRootUID=1 (thank you Methanoiiiiid /and others!)
5. YOUR FIRST TIME IN ML:
5.1 Install Chameleon Bootloader 2.2
5.2 Copy the Extra Folder from the Downloadfiles in your /Volumes/ML-HDD/ (replace them all)
5.3 Copy all Files in Extensions Folder to your /Volumes/ML-HDD/System/Libraries/Extensions/ (replace existing files)
5.4 Open the 'Kext Utility.app' which is located in the 'Setup Programms' Folder from your Downlaod.
5.5 Authorize 'Kext Utility.app' with your Password and let it repair the permissions.
5.6 Copy 'HW Monitor.app' and 'Brightness Slider.app' into your Applications folder.

6. cross your fingers and reboot :)

You should be able to boot from your ML-HDD via Chameleon Bootloader without any flags!

If i get Kernel Panics, i am to 99% sure your Model and Bios do not fit! If so, no way to get it working that easy. (I spend days in learning how to create/patch/use Bios Tables (so called .aml files).

Finally thanks to you all who brought me to that idear of hacking this wonderful Acer! Mac OS X is amazing, even Ultra High Definition (4k) videos run easy!



This Setup should include:
EVERYTHING expect WLAN and microphone! (replace it!)

If you have questions, go on, but keep in mind. In the last 5 Days i had about one million of questions. There is no way i would have reached my goal if i asked them all (use your mind, think twice, then ask!).

Well i have the v5 171 and its a different model to you and a lower bios version and ive been in the desktop with sound ethernet,display,mouse ect working so i think you could be wrong there.
 
Hey mates!

Good to hear that it is working even with not the exact model (can you post your exact model so i can add it to the post?). I ll have to edit that part then. I wrote it, just to make sure that the dsdt and ssdt are made for exactly my model and it can kernel panic pretty hard if there are little differences.

Hey Crabhunter, my mic is working with the Voodoo.2.8.(?) - can't remember exactly- sorry here! But i went back to HDA cause i have the feeling, that the sound is better! :)

I am on the go, will edit my post later! (thanks for your updates and corrections!)

Thanks so much for all your work!!! I have a V5-171-9661 i7 machine. I used your DSDT and a few of your kext, along with a custom SSDT file for my machine. This Acer is running sooooooo well. Thank you again!!!

There is one thing if your interested or perhaps you have already solved, the battery runs down pretty quick even though I have closed the lid and the laptop shows sleeping. Turns out the usb ports have power to them. I can plug in any usb device and the device powers on. The laptop still shows sleeping based on the flashing amber lite on the from of my machine. Any thoughts??? I'm not very good at figuring out DSDT at this time but I'm working on it.

Also, sorry, sometimes the cursor for the track pad goes away. I just sleep the machine and wake it up and the cursor come back active..... have you had this issue???

thanks for you reply. Well it is great to hear that it even works with your model (nearly perfect).

To your Problems, i am pretty sure that battery drain and sleep / usb issues are caused by the dsdt. I dont have these issues, my Acer works totally as a Macbook Air, never had any issues so far. I guess the touchpad issue relies on the dsdt too. I'd like to help you, but without your model its nearly impossible for me to do so. I am not a genious in dsdt editing, just started this on my acer and it was a lot of trial-and-error.

But i wish you good luck - there should be a solution (by editing your dsdt) for your problems, so keep beeing motivated!

Edit: For all interested if brightness key work, they do. There is no need to use Brightness Slider.app.

Use: "Pause" to increase Brightness.
Use: "Fn" + "F12" to decrease Brightness.

And if you want to replace your WLAN-Card and do not know which one to buy, search on Ebay for: "DELL Wireless DW1510 802.11n Mini Card Airport MAC OS" it will work OOTB.
 
Hi Guys,

I have followed your posts and they were extremely helpful to get ML set up on the acer v5-171. Everything works on my machine, except the trackpad. I tried various kext files but nothing seems to work. I am able to connect an external mouse but that's it. After the first install, the trackpad would work for one minute and then stall/lock after I double click on anything. Now, after restarts, it just doesn't do anything.

Any thoughts?

I appreciate your help.
 
Have you tried the Trackpad kext from my kext files (to download some posts above)?

This should work for you, if not! Post your Full Notebook Number, it should be something like: V5-171-XXXXXXXXXXX

Thanks... its good to see others taking this forward... Have you checked your guide with 10.8.4? Would be useful if you have to post any updated files/kexts etc. Nice to see all files in one download. I will probably have to rebuild my laptop soon with 10.8.4 anyway!
