10.8.3: AMD Radeon HD 7xxx Graphics Testing Thread

Any theories as to why the HD7970 smokes the GTX680 by such a difference in tonymacx86's Unigine test? On Windows there's no such difference: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1881/14/

Was the 7970 benchmark done with comparable settings to the Nvidia tests here? http://www.tonymacx86.com/graphics/...nchmarks-10-8-3-geforce-gt-640-gtx-680-a.html

I imagine the 7000 series will all beat them significantly as, at least for me, I can't enable AA and most benchmarks have at least 4xaa or better.

Hi,

I am running a Gigabyte x58-extreme motherboard with an MSI 7970OC and cant get past the Whitescreen problem. My mobo doesnt have EFI or onboard VGA so cant boot that way.

I install to 10.8.2,
Multibeast DSDT file for my BIOS, Sleep Enabler and Chameleon in
Update to 10.8.3 (either via Appstore or Combo) and get whitescreen (GraphicsEnabler=yes/no doesnt make any difference)
Sleep trick doesnt work, and neither does rotate trick

I can boot into OSX in safemode using -x.

Am I doing something wrong or missing a step?

same problem here with my his7950 x58a-ud3r!

After updating to 10.8.3 you have to re-run multibeast to repatch the files that 10.8.3 modifies.

Yes, rerun multibeast, but makes no difference

My motherboard doesn't have onboard gfx either. The only way I was able to get it to work was to use an older nvidia card. Probably wasn't what you wanted to hear, but I wasn't able to find any other solution.

Has anyone tried 10.8.4? Is this any easier to get working?

Ah, not an exactly fair fight then. How about doing some tests with identical settings?

Unigine 4.0
Preset: custom
quality: ultra
tesselation: extreme
stereo 3d: off
multi-monitor: off
AA: off
full screen: on
resolution 1920x1080

in-game settings:
ambient occlusion: on
volumetric shadows on
refractions: on
Vsync: off

My i7-2600k (4GHz OC) and GTX670 (EVGA FTW OC) scores (under OSX 10.8.2):
FPS: 49.5
Score: 1248
Min FPS: 12.7
Max FPS:109.3

With 8x AA it scores:
FPS: 39.2
Score: 988
Min FPS: 12.6
Max FPS: 80.8

That's a 25% difference.

/Extra/fb-rotate/fb-rotate -d 0 -r 90
/Extra/fb-rotate/fb-rotate -d 0 -r 0

That's what I have. Run it before restarting your computer to make sure it works correctly.

As for the boot0 gibberish, I used Chameleon Wizard 4.2.1. Select the appropriate install method based on your system setup. Make sure to install it on the correct hd which is listed at the bottom.

Hope that helps.

Anyone here who cant pass the white screen. This one fixed it for me. I have 10.8.3 and HD 7850. Put it under System Preferences -> Users and into Autostart!

It's worth noting that this trick DOES NOT work for more than 2 monitors, even if you add the third monitor's device ID to the script. No idea why, but my third monitor remains off until I put it to sleep and wake up (then all 3 are working fine). This rotation script works GREAT if you have 2 or 1 monitor, but not for 3 or more.

Which is actually why I'm back here, anyone have a fix for 3+ monitors? :D
