Cube Switch Modding

Thanks for the info kiwisincebirth. Yes it's a NUC mobo.
Believe or not the pins for internal power and for the USB header are missing from the complete kit version ( the one that I have) so I ' ll have to deal with the external power plug.

Powermac G5 thermal sensor Connector Compatibility

Here is a little gem of information that may come in useful to cube switch modders. When I was looking for a replacement connector for my Cube sensor board I discovered that the thermal sensors in the Powermac G5, you know the ones that are attached to the HDD bay, and I think down near the PSU. It turns out these are the same type of connector as the Cube switch, one of the boards (not the one pictured) has the required 5 pins.

Thus the cable can be re-used.

Hi,

Firstly my apologies if my question is kind of obvious for you
I have all the necessary stuff to try the Cube Switch Mod. but I've a doubt regarding the polarity of the power switch cable (the one that connects the cube power switch with the mobo ) How do I know what's + and what's - ? There is no indication in the cable's plug and the mobo header pins only indicates

6 POWER_SWITCH# [In] Power switch
8 GROUND Ground

Will I damage anything if I reverse polarity?

Thanks!!
F

Go back to page 1 of this thread and check out the third picture down, you will see the green wire + and the white wire - your motherboard manual will show which pin on the header is the positive and negative. the plug that connects to the motherboards header generally has a triangle on it to show the positive wire, and generally it is green. Your motherboard will generally have indicators on it , I have to use a magnifying glass these days to see them though. I haven't reversed the polarity and can't tell you if you could damage anything but I can only say it doesn't hurt if you are wiring to an ordinary switch to which way you put the wires because it is only closing the circuit. And the cubes sensor switch is powered from your motherboards PSU. If you put some photo's up and show what you are doing, maybe we can point you in whatever direction you need to go. Cheers Rossi.

If you wire the switch the wrong way, you will find it does a restart loop. If it does that, then change the connections back to the other way around.....the other thing that will also cause a restart loop is if you forget to ground the switch plate.

Don't worry though it will not cause damage, but it will make it clear that you have done something wrong.

thanks for your help!

I tried the connections yesterday without grounding the switch plate, just for the sake of testing it:

Depending on how I connected the +/- I got these results:

1)White LED glowing strongly /restart loop that Minihack mentioned.

2)White LED blinking (Glowing dimly) / no power to the motherboard.

So to correctly ground the switch plate all I need is a ground molex cable wired to the case ( like in the page 1 pics ) ?

cheers

ps:I'll try to upload some pics

Hi,
Just wanted to let you know that after grounding the switch plate everything works !:headbang:

Thanks minihack & rossi1959 for your help :clap::clap: you rock!

Does anyone know the Pinouts of this thermal sensor?

I'm looking to try it out in my i7 cube.

Thx!
