Patching your DSDT ProBook 4x30s using MaciASL

@ kpkp: Got no HDMI peripherals for a test. Only a VGA screen.

@ BigDonkey: Will try. Do I need your patch for it? Have only a stick with USB3 -- can I do some meaningful tests with that?

It's more like "for Probook with Ivy Bridge CPU" so you should be fine. Did you try the new GenericUSBXCI kext as a better alternative?

Isn't it more tied to the chipset? So a 4x40s with Sandy Bridge and 7-series chipset could use it too (all 4x40s has 7-series, right). But I agree, we should probably retire this option as GenericUSBXHCI seems to be better. I'll probably keep the file in the repo, but remove it from the .maciasl menu.

Start fresh DSDT and skip this patch.
USB3 stick is fine to test. It should work on all 4 ports. USB System Info should show 480Mb/s in USB 2.0 mode and 5Gb/s in USB 3.0 mode.

That's what I thought, then zoltankr pointed out that patch doesn't work on his 4540s with Sandy Bridge. After swapping CPU I agree with that conclusion.

Weird stuff. Good reason to dump it...

OK, I see the 5GB/s -- in System Profiler, that is. :D
Real world test with a SanDisk Cruzer stick shows at least a good difference between the USBs (sequential uncached read, 256k blocks, measured with XBench):
Left front port, USB 3: 177.07 MB/sec
Left back port, USB 3: 177.25 MB/sec
Right front port, USB 2: 40.20 MB/sec
Right back port, USB 2: 38.86 MB/sec

Thanks for your great Kext work!

EDIT: deleted
Just my stupid error.

I just ran some tests of the fan patches on the 4740s / bios F.40 to find the quietest option for low loads.
Laptop was on AC and "fan always on" disabled in bios. Identical SSDTs with 4740s IB and dual link patches were again patched with the fan patches. Each was installed in turn, after reboot HWMonitor was started and the machine left idling for ≥5 minutes. The results:

The readings patch works fine on the 47410s and it has the lowest rpm when idling. Would the cpu be too hot with lower rpms?

Your system sure is running hot. My i3-2310m ProBook idles under 50C normally.

His speedstep isn't working as you can see...

Good catch -- Didn't notice that. But yeah, it is clear -- needs proper SSDT...
