Hi all,

I upgraded my hack to 10.8.3. In 10.8.2, my 6870 reported about 42ºC in IDLE. Now, it's in 61ºC in the same conditions.
Why? Is it normal? Has anyone noted this? Is there any way to come back to the same temps in 10.8.2 without downgrade?

Thank you.

Hi lithetails,

I have the same issue like you with a 5870 ATI card. In 10.8.2 I have between 38ºC and 41ºC. In 10.8.3 the temperature is max. about 66ºC. Really strange behavior. So something must changed in the driver for the graphic card. I already tried to exchange the kext files and the frame buffer but after that I had strange behavior of the graphics on the desktop.

So, finally I stay with 10.8.2 until there is maybe a solution.

I tried installing the old ATI6000Controller.kext from 10.8.2 and I have the same issue. Maybe could be a kernel issue.
Can you try this but using ATI5000Controller.kext?
Remember rebuild your extensions cache and save both drivers in a safe site.

Yeah, already tried with the ATI5000Controller.kext from 10.8.2 but the issue remains the same. I have really no idea what the root cause could be. Very strange...

I'm not the guy to really help with this, but are you able to edit the power states of the graphics card in one of the kexts? For the life of me I have no idea which.

Also, the fan in my GT430 started at 60% and was rather loud - so I booted into windows and flashed the GFX card bios with a tool to change the fan curve (was quite safe to do so) and now in OS X is nice and quiet.

Hope this inspires some ideas!

Can you explain this? Is it valid for AMD? Thanks

I have an Apple-branded 5870 and also have the same high temperature at idle, 61 degrees, with 10.8.3. No sure exactly what it was in 10.8.2, but I do not believe it was this high or I would have noticed it.

Wow, if this is truth demonstrates Apple made something wrong!
