Hi everybody,

I'm aspiring to make a Hackintosh for the first time, and most of the equipment was hand picked for me by a friend, who no longer has the need to make his own hackintosh which is why I'm trying my hand at it.

At first, I purchased a 6870 but I was unsatisfied with the measly 1gb it offered. I wanted to go the Radeon route instead of Nvidia, so when I heard that the 7xxx series drivers were in the new beta, I immediately returned that 6870 and exchanged it for a 7850. Was this premature?

I don't mind waiting a bit for the drivers to be released, but I really want to be sure they'll be released at some point with mountain lion 10.8.3.

My full set up is as follows:
Gigabyte z77x-ud5h
intel i5-3570k
intel ssd 180gb
ripjaws 16gb ddr3 ram
xfx radeon hd 7850 2gb graphics card
950 watt rosewill power supply

I'll hang out with a Windows 7 installation for as long as it takes for the drivers and instructions for a 7850 install, because I don't know enough about the process to try it blind. I have a very basic understanding of computers and have only built my own pc setup once, so any help and advice would be much appreciated.

It was probably premature, yes. But let's keep hoping for drivers. :)

Since you have the 3570k, you could just install OS X without the 7850, running of the internal HD4000.

Any developments on the 7850 being compatible? I just have 2 of my 3 screens working! it's quite depressing running of the HD4000 with 3 monitors on my desk!

How did you get the graphics card to work?
Sapphire 7850 1GB

Did you try to add device ID in the different kexts AMDRADEONaccelerator, ATI7000controller, ATIFramebuffer ?
When you boot with -v and GraphicsEnabler=Yes, didi you see at start your card recognize by chameleon/chimera ?
