I think i did it
Audio is not working at all. Delete S/L/E/HDAEnabler1.kext.
Install MultiBeast 4.6.1/Drivers & Bootloaders/Kexts & Enablers/Audio/Realtek ALC8xx/Non-DSDT Enabler/ALC892.
Restart and reply with a copy of IOReg.

Hi guys,

I'm also on the GA x79-UP4 and, unfortunately, am also having issues with the audio very similar to what has been described here.

I'd be exceptionally grateful if one of you could share with me what it took to get the audio working on this board.

Cheers.

All the answers are in this post:
Solution, see Post #2
Enabler, if no dsdt, see Post #11
Problems, see Post #6

Ah, I was trying to use the interim solution with MultiBeast 5.2.1. I tried with 4.6.1 and it finally works.

Thankyou so much Toleda, you're my favorite person in the world right now!

I am stumped. I had the same issue, used the "Interim" fix with MultiBeast 4.6.1 and the audio still did not work. I discovered, however, that when I boot with -f at startup, the audio does work. Can anyone help me with this one? Am I doomed to continue booting with -f to get the audio to work?

Mountain Lion 10.8.2
Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4
3.5 Ghz Intel core i7

Many thanks.
