ubermick,

Hot swapping does not work with the Gigabyte implementation of Thunderbolt. IIRC, it's in the manual that came with the board. However, I don't the answer to your GoFlex (0,2) drive problem, yet. I don't have one, but I'm checking with the moderators on your problem.

Thanks, much appreciated there. I didn't see a mention of Thunderbolt not being swappable in the Gigabyte manual, but that's moot since there were plenty of folks cataloging their builds who said as much, I just didn't bother reading up enough. The plan was to have 2-3 SSDs (a dedicated work drive, CCC of my boot drive) that I could pop in and out at will, but looks like I'll have to rethink Thunderbolt for that. (At least for now)

Another issue I'm having is that my USB ports seem to be misbehaving. Keyboard is sporadically lagging, as is my mouse (both Logitech wireless ones using their unifier dongle), my webcam (Logitech C910) didn't work at all (would light up, but ML wouldn't show a picture when trying to use) until I unplugged and replugged, and doesn't seem to like my USB3 header at all. (Plug a USB drive in there, and it's a 50-50 on whether or not things will freeze up, but seems to work fine in a USB 2 port)

It's my understanding that the PC motherboard manufacturers used the Intel Thunderbolt chipset firmware while Apple uses it's own firmware to support Hot Swapping on Macs.

Unfortunately, I can't help you with your USB problem. I use the Logitech K750 Solar Mac KB with the Unifying receiver and BT Apple KB, Mighty Mouse and Trackpad. The both wireless dongles are plugged into a DVI/USB KVM switch rather than the computer(s) so as to share the input devices. The USB 2 cable to/from the computer to the KVM switch is in the USB 2 port on the back panel, far left (or top as the motherboard is tilled vertically in a case) in the same "column" as the the PS/2 connector. However, initially, I used the Apple USB KB and a Logitech USB mouse connected to the front panel USB 2 ports; both worked fine.

I have the Seagate Thunderbolt Adapter, as long as you leave the adapter plugged in, you can hot swap HD's in and out of the adapter with no problems. Just right click on the drive, eject. Remove the drive. Plug in another one when you want.

Really?! Any time I've tried it, everything just locks up. Have you changed any Thunderbolt settings in the bios?

Nothing special, I leave the adapter plugged in, just take them in and out of the adapter.

Holy crap on a cracker. Had to reset the CMOS for continuing USB issues (motherboard won't recognized the USB ports that are plugged into the header during boot, but once Mountain Lion or Windows are loaded, it sees them fine?) and lo and behold, the Thunderbolt port is now quasi-swappable. As before, if I connect anything with a thunderbolt cable after ML is booted, it freezes, but now if I follow your method of right clicking and ejecting, it doesn't hang, and can swap drives within the adapter. Doesn't solve the problem completely, but certainly makes it nice.

Now if only I could figure out what the @#$# is going on with USB, I'd be all set with my Stork ripoff.

Hi Stork and happy new year! :D

if you're back from holiday, could you be so kind to test the concerns that I expressed in my post #79? TIA :)

So, what does that patch do and where did you get it? Reference links are appropriate so we can all learn from them.

BTW, GE=No can be selected in MultiBeast. See page 8 in the MultiBeast Features document which came with MultiBeast.

the patch iLerin refers to enables correctly the HD4000 graphics of the i7-3xxx CPUs in OSX ML. Infact from what I read the HD3000 is seen natively in ML but HD4000 need to be correctly "seen" by the OS.

The reference is the alfa147 website where this procedure is fully described but you can find plenty of threads here where the topic has been discussed.

I just put together a new build - my first to do from scratch on my own, but far from my first hackintosh.

I used the Gigabyte Z77X-UP4TH motherboard, Intel i7-3770K processor and a Gigabyte HD 6950 graphics card.

That card was a remnant of an upgrade I bought for my older system, but I was never able to get it to work.

I put together quite the nice package of goods for this build (including the Thermaltake Level 10 GT case!!) but didn't get a new video card since this one should be fine with this motherboard.

Wrong.

Unibeast moves from the apple startup screen to then sit on a blank white screen forever with nothing other than a mouse.

Any clue how I can actually get this rig to work without having to go to a different video card?

Thanks!
