Trouble Installing Mac OS X Snow Leopard on Desktop

Hey all!

This is my first post here so if I am missing information or posting in the wrong section please let me know. Anywho, I guess it would be helpful to first list my desktop specs. They are as follows:

Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Corsair Builder Series CX600 600 watt 80 Plus Certified Power Supply Compatible with Intel and AMD Platforms ATX 700 CMPSU-600CXV2
Asus Black 12X BD-ROM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA Internal Blu-Ray Drive (BC-12B1ST)
Western Digital 160 GB Caviar Blue SATA 7200 RPM 8 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive WD1600AAJS

I have downloaded and burned iBoot to a dual layer DVD. I also have a Mac OS X Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
I have unplugged my external graphics card and am allowing my mother boards internal graphic card to be used during mac installation.
I have taken one of the two 8 GB ram sticks out in order to negate any problems that might be caused by having two sticks in.
I have set the Bios to AHCI mode and the boot priority is set to CD-ROM.
My drive is formatted to FAT32 (also attempted these steps when formatted to exFat).

So now onto the problem itself. I insert the iBoot disc and restart my computer. There seem to be no issues. Here is the result.

Then I eject the iBoot disc and insert the Mac OS X Snow Leopard Retail DVD and I make it to this screen.

When I select the Mac OS X install option, type -x, or type PCIRootUID=1 I always get stuck at a white screen with the mac logo.


Any suggestions as to whether my computer may not be compatible or steps that I am missing or should try would be greatly appreciated. I poked around the forum for a few hours in an attempt to not be redundant. Tried a lot of things but to no avail. Your help and responses are valued.

What you are missing is Ivy Bridge Z77 board/CPU support in Snow Leopard which doesn't exist.

Thanks a lot for your response. I Did some poking around on other forums and came across iBoot Legacy. iBoot Legacy seems like it is in the beta stages of trying to be compatible with Ivy Bridge board/CPU support. When attempting to use iBoot Legacy and Mac OS X Install DVD I get a kernal panic error.

All in all, it seems like you are suggesting that I jump straight to Lion or Mountain Lion and my problems will most likely be solved? Correct me if I am wrong. Again, thanks for your response.

Would be so nice on Moutain Lion but trouble w Snow Leopard - you listing of hardware - the nVidia 560 the Z77 MB - the Ivy Bridge CPu - would all be so functional on ML but are all so problematic on SL.

And you want to install SL - sorry but you are not alone in this matter as many other members have attempted to do this w SL.

Going Bald has tested this out and what he found is that you can use the Legacy - and get to at least 10.6.3 ( if you have the 10.6.3 DVD) but you cant go forwared and even if you do ( w the Apple DVD and Apple Combo Update for 10.6.8 ) you will have issues at trying to get to the Apple Store to get ML downloaded so as to make the UNIBEAST Thumb Drive.

But don't give up and just install WindBlows - some users have had good results w installing SL in to a virtual senario - Tony mac members can not get into the nuts and bolts of this method - per the Rules and Reg's. - http://www.tonymacx86.com/faq.php
But you can mention it - which I have done - Suggest you use Goggle for this

Also I suggest that you look for in Google and search the terms "How to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on an Ivy Bridge Hackintosh (experimental)"
No clue as to if it works and all I am doing is sayin "its out there"... and again no commenting on the results - just be happy...

issues - problems etc that one may get - as I cant progress on my build as I am waiting for Hard Drives.

We have a new iBoot cd for Ivy Bridge that supports the Ivy Bridge line of CPU's and this should allow you to get to install SL and then allow You to get to the APP store an download - make - and install a UniBeast flash Drive.

you may want to try it both ways - w the nvidia 560 and with out it -

1) Downloaded iBoot for Ivy Bridge 1.0.0
2) Burned to a dual layer 8.5 gb DVD (didn't have anything smaller...)
3) Configured BIOS UEFI according to this guide

4) Disconnected my external graphics card
5) Took out one 8 gb RAM stick (leaving only one 8 gb RAM stick in my MB)
6) Disconnected all other hard drives
7) Rebooted computer with iBoot DVD in the optical drive
8) Put in Mac OS X SL "Retail" DVD
9) Installed Mac OS X SL on computer
10) Turned computer off after installation
11) Plugged everything back in that was disconnected for first time installation
12) Restarted computer and finished the installation

I have yet to play with everything and figure out what does and does not work yet; however after running MultiBeast the first two problems that I am immediately aware of are:
1) The Mac OS X is unable to detect that I am connect to the Ethernet (which I am because I am on the same computer just using Windows at the moment).

2) The operating system is not able to boot from the hard drive (still requires iBoot to be in the drive). It just get stucks at this Mac looking loading screen
