Thanks so much for the guide Moarfish :)

Any ideas? I did wonder if the problem could be my hard drive (a Samsung HD502HJ), but I suspect it isn't this. This is the only thing stopping my build from working perfectly, and because the screen/keyboard/mouse are in my living room, and the hack in the cellar with 5m wires, the sleep function is kinda important to me!

The BIOS settings can choose to boot from UEFI or not inside the boot sequence menu. Which one did you choose? I do not have sleep problem with both ADATA SSD (Which already faulty and sent to repair) and Western Digital Harddrive (Currently using) having UEFI settings.

Hi moarfish, can you update or add into the guide if someone (like me) would want to set up this particular system (hw-wise) from ML 10.8.2 directly? Thanks

Well I think you may have got to the cause of the problem! I had to choose P0:DISKNAME not UEFI:DISKNAME as it won't boot if I choose UEFI, I get a message saying 'insert book disk and press enter' or similar.

@ Moarfish : i just bought the same build and i have a silly problem

when i reach the setup window , i found that the mouse is not working !!!!!!

i followed ur guide (same bios setting ) and the only problem is the mouse

what shall i do ????

Edit : I tried iousbfamily rollback but still no luck with the mouse , can u share ur iousb kext ?

It is the same steps on the first post. You just have to skip the software update step if you got 10.8.2 Unibeast directly.

You don't have to modify anything to have the mouse working. It should work out of the box. My iousb kext is the original ML 10.8 kext. Try switching to another USB port, switch another Mouse or update your bios.

thnx 4 the quick reply :D

i tried all usb ports and no luck ... even i tried ps2 kexts to fix it and still no luck and the bios is up to date

the keyboard is working fine , just the mouse ( and i check if the mouse is ok ... it worked in bios and in ubuntu 12.10 live )

So any idea to fix this lame problem :S ???

Edit : After looking up for a solution , most people recommend to check legacy support while creating the usb in unibeast , but i don't have access to osx ( my friend created the usb fro me )

so can any ony share the legacy support kext ?

Thank you so much for the guide, moarfish. I have been using it to build a similar machine. I will post the exact configuration of the machine lateron as I am now typing from an iPad. I tried to use the multibeast 5.0.2 settings, and it seemed to have worked, havent tested everything yet but no kernel panics in the few hours that it has been on.

I did have a problem with my monitor resolution though, but that is my own fault. The gigabyte motherboard only supports a maximum of 1920x1200. I have a U2711 dell monitor that has a 2560x1440 native resolution. I could not get it to work properly yet with the onboard graphics, so I will buy a cheap asus 210 1gb later today. Meanwhile it does work with an old samsung 245b monitor I have (that i wanted to use as secondary monitor), at its native 1920x1200. Dualmonitor is the ultimate goal but for now I just want to use my new dell, and i do not want to spend a lot of money on a noisy videocard.

To make the unibeast stick I bought mountain lion in the app store and ran unibeast. The process seemed to hang in the end (had to reboot it) but the resulting stick worked perfectly.

I used the new ocz vertex4 128gb sdd, which gave me no problems. Also i tried to hook up a fiio e9+e7 combo usb Dac (audio), which works without hassle.

Now off to the shop! :)

Installed the card and it works flawlessly. My component list:

Intel i5-3570K
Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H
Corsair Vengeance - 8 GB : 2 x 4 GB - DIMM 240-pins low profile - DDR3 - 1600MHz / PC3-12800 - CL9 - 1.5 V
OCZ Vertex4 SSD 128GB
Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 - SATA-600 - 7200rpm
SilverStone Fortress TJ08-E - Towermodel - micro ATX
Sony Optiarc AD-7280S - 24x24x12x - SerialATA - 5.25"
Be quiet! Pure Power BQT L8-430W
Cooler Master Hyper TX 3 Evo CPU cooler
Asus EN210 SILENT/DI/1GD3/V2(LP)
Dell U2711 monitor (2560x1440 resolution working with Asus DVI)

Fiio E7+E9 USB DAC Audio
Microsoft Lifecam Cinema webcam
Logitech Illuminated Keyboard
Logitech MX 620 wireless laser mouse

Geekbench 32bit shows around 9000 points.

Things to try later:
- multi monitor support with 245b on HDMI
- Get USB3 working
- Check if onboard audio works too (probably does)

A little bit later I want to give an update to my situation, since it might be of help to someone.

What's good:
- I have dualmonitor working, with the 2711 hooked up through DVI and the 245B through HDMI (with convertor on monitor side since it has no HDMI connector).
- Onboard audio works.
- I have a Magic Trackpad working with an external usb dongle: a Sitecom CN-523 bluetooth 2.1 EDR class 1 (100meter) USB 2.0 dongle. Initially I had some problems setting it up on the usb 2.0 ports on the back of the machine, but I changed it to the side of my 2711 monitor (which has a built in hub), and now it works perfectly.
- I updated to 10.8.2 using the method moarfish described, no problems there.

What's not so good (minor issues):
- When I put the machine in sleep mode manually it works, no problem. Unfortunately the machine does not go to sleep automatically after the set time in SystemPreferences>EnergySaver. If anybody knows why, please share this. I also would like to know if anybody has this working.
- In the first weeks I had 2 crashes out of the blue. I was a little worried, but it hasn't happened anymore.
- USB3 ports are still unusable since all my devices are 2.0. Unfortunately I could not find a USB3.0 BT dongle. Juggling withe the 2.0 ports.

All in all, I'm really satisfied.

Well I think you may have got to the cause of the problem! I had to choose P0:DISKNAME not UEFI:DISKNAME as it won't boot if I choose UEFI, I get a message saying 'insert book disk and press enter' or similar.

So Moarfish any idea how I can get my system to boot using UEFI? Or why it won't at the moment?

Would really appreciate any ideas you have!
