Article: Inside MultiBeast: New FakeSMC Plugins and Hardware Monitoring App

@MacMan

Here is my experience with the new FakeSMC Plugins: A few weeks ago I've installed Mountain Lion (fresh installation) with MB5.1.1 on both of my machines (see sig.). At this time I haven't installed the plugins (FakeSMC was installed by default).
Two days ago I made the first try with my OfficeMachine. Here is what I did:

1. with Kext Wizard repair permissions and rebuild cache
2. renamed FakeSMC.kext to FakeSMC1.kext
3. Kext Wizard => repair permissions + rebuild cache
4. MB 5.1.3 => installed FakeSMC + both plugins
5. Kext Wizard => repair permissions + rebuild cache
6. Reboot

Started HWMonitor, installed the bar extension and everything works. HWMonitor shows all possible options. Afterwards I removed FakeSMC1.kext and Kext Wizard again. Reboot. Everything is ok.

Today I did it also with my HomeMachine. Made the same procedure like above.

Started HWMonitor, installed the bar extension but it showed only the degrees from the hard drives and nothing more. So I've stopped HWMonitor, started Kext Wizard (repair persmissions/rebuild cache), renamed FakeSMC.kext to FakeSMC2.kext (FakeSMC1.kext was already there - see above). Kext Wizard again (rp/rc), renamed FakeSMC1.kext to FakeSMC.kext, Kext Wizard (rp/rc) and reboot.
After reboot I started HWMonitor/bar extension and voila everything is shown (temperatures of CPU/GPU/drives,...).

So that means on my Socket1156-machine FakeSMC from MB5.1.3 works perfect, on my Socket1155 (IvyBridge) FakeSMC from MB5.1.1 works 100%. FakeSMC from MB 5.1.3 on my IvyBridge showed only the temperatures of the hard drives (and nothing more).

First time the plug-ins have ever worked for me on my set-up - excellent! (Previously I always had a kernel-panic.)

I will try for a test of Sleep later - when I'm feeling brave - and report back if it works or not...

EDIT: OK ... Sleep WORKED! That's impressive.

Thanks to the powers-that-be for all their work in not only coding the FakeSMC but also those who bundled is so effectively!

Also works perfectly on my system (ML 10.8.2), very impressive!

Is your Ivy Bridge system the Asus listed in your signature? If so, it might be that kozlek's branch doesn't have motherboard plugins for it.

guys! i dont know but it isnt working for me. i have a hp pro book 4530 and installed the plugin and now both my keyboard and touchpad isnt working. it also takes like 30 mins for my USB to come on live so that my external plugin keyboard and mouse now works. How do i remove and revert back. My console log is filling up with all kinds of errore not finding sensor kext and stuff. PLEASE HELPP!!!

Yes it's the Asus P8Z77-M Pro. So does that mean no support for Asus boards? Only for Gigabyte? HWMonitor works perfect with the Asus board but only with FakeSMC from MB 5.1.1 (also the rest like sleep/shutdown...). Is there a big difference?

Only getting Hard Drive temps. On Lion. Installed both FakeSMC and FakeSMC PlugIns. Restarted a few times. I get list of choices in Preferences, but none of them except HDs have checkboxes or show info. i3-2105 on gigabyte H61N-USB3.

I am running ML 10.8.2 with GA-B75M-D3H and Intel Xeon 1230v2 , everything work greats. however , I install FakeSMC and it report CPU heatsink 201 degree, anyone has the same problem ?

Try to use FakeSMC from Multibeast 5.1.1 (if you still have it) and test it again (only FakeSMC without the plugins). See me experience above.

I have a similar issue on 10.8.2 with the GA-H77N-WIFI and an Ivy bridge i5. However, for me it shows Ambient 200 degrees :)
