Here is a thread that I was introduced to that shows how to obtain a discount code for Windows 8 Pro upgrade for only $14.99.

I did run this and it worked just fine, got my upgrade code and all seems to be good to go. I will do the install later on, on my Hack :)

Here is the thread over at techpowerup, thanks to Phusius for posting this over there,

Just follow his instructions on the thread and all will be fine but if you put in an older computer you will be turned down and if you reenter the info again and change the date you will then need a valid Win 7 product key.

Someone tell them that €15 are not $15... as an european I am getting sick of these conversions.

Got it! but I had win7 ultimate already running on my hack so the upgrade cost me £24.99, had to buy media centre separately which was another £6.99. A bit sad at letting win7 go for the sake of win8 as I quite liked 7, still got the disk so may reinstall later when I change all the drives to SSDs at a later date. At the moment, S/L, M/L and win8 are all playing nicely (triple booting). One thing I did notice with win8, when you put it to sleep it does just that, I had a sleep problem with win7 where the monitor would go off but the fans would stay on so I guess they fixed that glitch in win8.

I was able to get this by using the following info.

Toshiba brand, Toshiba satellite model, with the purchase date being 7/1/2012 and got approved. Mind you this info was totally bogus, and they didn't verify the info.

I'm not sure if the product license code for a windows 7 system will be invalidated if you run the upgrade checker and purchase windows 8 so what I plan on doing is running vmware player with a activated windows Vista Business OS to run the upgrade qualification program on.

I'm not sure it's possible to use the upgrade to do a clean install like it was with previous versions. I'll check into this and advise after I get the upgrade downloaded.

I used a Toshiba Qosmio laptop from September, I own a Qosmio so not fully a fib lol and I did buy Windows 7 OEM in September for my DV6 so all good there.

I also ran the upgrade checker while in Windows 7 on my Hack with no issues. It told my a couple things where no longer supported and several items needed an upgrade, either free or paid, was able to save that report and then download the whole shabang.

At the end if gives you an option if you want to install now, put it on a 3GB min USB drive or Burn an .iso DVD.
I chose the USB drive leaving me with a physical copy. So I can say the upgrade check was OK and I had no issues, even after it saying my Asus motherboard had a couple things needing upgrading after saying this was for a Toshiba Qosmio.

I used 'Other' for PC brand and literally made up a computer model number. I was able to download, make an .iso DVD, and install it on the Win7 partition of my HP Probook 4530s (actually writing this from IE in Win8).
