I suggest you just get startech. I got a cheapo generic ti chipset firewire card, worked, but died after 3weeks. Ordering the startech soon.

I doubt that that was the intended functionality. That's what warranty is for.

You're probably right.

No warranty. It was so cheap, I bought it even without warranty. I just wanted to check if my fw audio interface will work with my hackintosh before ordering startech which costs 90usd+shipping costs to asia, and it did.

So, i got my card. A startech PEX 1394B3.
Unfortunately it does't solve my problem.
I am unable to record 48khz.. i get digital clicks when i try.

I have a high end Metric halo 2882 firewire sound card, that has ALWAYS worked flawless, even on my old hack.
And it works without a hinch on my Macbook pro.

Would appreciate any feedback on thin, since all i can come up with is to buy a new mono.

I'm using the Sonnet Tango 800. Firewire works without a hitch (lion, ML) but strangely the 2 USB2.0 ports never worked. I picked this card because it's supposed to have a full firewire channel for each port, so no bandwidth sharing between the 3 FW800's.

The StarTech 1394B3 firewire card I ordered arrived today and tested it immediately. It works natively on 10.6.8 and 10.8.2. Fortunately, no issues with sleep/wake/shutdown/restart.

I did a test recording using Logic Pro 8 and Profire 610 at 24 bit 192khz and it recorded fine without a problem. One issue I have observed so far is that whenever I load Space Designer plug-in, I get the spinning beach ball for around 2 minutes, then the plug-in loads fine. I tried loading other plug-ins like EQ and Compressor and they load immediately without a problem. It sucks because Space Designer is the only plug-in I use in my recordings. This is probably an issue unrelated to the firewire card, but if anybody knows how to fix this, I'd appreciate your input.

I also tested the FW800 port with my Seagate FW800 external hard drive, no problems.

Thanks for the suggestion LostSwede!

yes LostSwede, i think you're right ... .

cause i was working with GA-EX58-UD5 ... and Firewire was working natively : i took a look to the firewire used by this motherboard , and discover this one :

T.I. TSB43AB23 chip
Up to 3 IEEE 1394a ports (1 on the back panel, 2 via the IEEE 1394a brackets connected to the internal IEEE 1394a headers)

Humm .... TSB43AB23, for my GA-H77-DS3H , i decide to buy a PCI card based on this chipset .
my motu ultralite MK3 firewire is working but the sound is not good (slight saturated ... even the new motu driver)

I just order startech : i will give you feed back but i'm pretty sure that the choice of a native apple chipset is the good way : to be verified !!!

see you soon.
