I have a Corsair 480GB SSD (CSSD-F480GBGT-BK) that I was going to use as a sample/virtual instrument library on my Mac Pro, but, as big as it is, it just isn't big enough (I have over 750GB of data).

So I'm thinking of using this as my boot drive in a HP 4530s i5 (A7K07UT)

I've read elsewhere on this site that there shouldn't be any problems with SSDrives in general, but I also read somewhere about size/speed limitations with regular hard drives.

I just wanted to make sure there weren't any size (or other compatibility) issues with the above drive/laptop.

Thanks,
Rob

Before you can say a drive will or will not fit in your laptop, look at how thick the drive is. Most HDD/SSDs are 9.5 mm thick, some are 15 mm thick but some are only 7.5 mm. If your pro book only takes 7.5 mm drives then it will not fit.

As Gb says ... its going to be up to what the current drive in the HP is - see if you can find the model number and seach on NewEgg for it - and you should see the dimensions - they should also list its height (thinckness)
Then compare it w you SSD - seach in the same manner.... then Choose Wisely !!

Thanks Going Bald and totenkopf4.

Geez, I wasn't even thinking about the physical size. The 'size' I was referring to was drive 'capacity'. At: www.tonymacx86.com/hp-probook-4530s/39064-16gb-ram-3.html … Inmike09 said: "… says on the HP support site that the 4530s doesn't support a 5400 RPM drive bigger than 640 GB and a 7200 RPM drive bigger than 500 GB."

I mean, I realize that the SSD doesn't spin, but I wanted to be sure there were no capacity limitations (460GB being 'large' for an SSD). I can't find any anywhere… but thought I'd ask to be on the safe side. I'm a noob, so...

Anyway, In regards to the physical size it is 9.5mm. Says so here...

http://www.corsair.com/us/ssd/force...80gb-sata-3-6gbps-solid-state-hard-drive.html

It also says... 'fits any laptop'... we'll see : )

The HP 4530s measurements are 2.87 cm or almost 29 mm, top to bottom. I'm trying to find the size of the actual drive, but all I can find out about it is that it's a 500 GB HDD 7200 rpm Serial ATA-300

The good new is that I already have the card, so I guess when I open the 4530 to upgrade the RAM, I can take a look.

Unless somebody knows the actual dimensions.

Thanks again,
Rob

You could use the HPPARTSURFER website and enter you HP model number and get a list of spare parts you HD model and mfg should be listed HP even may have the specs listed - then search once you know the #

If size matters you may want to look at the momentuz laptop HD by seagate they are hybrid units - they have them to 750 gb and are reviewed quite nicely - cost isnt to high -it an inbetween solution.

Hell yeah! Part no. 634925-001 500GB SATA hard disk drive - 7,200 RPM, 2.5-inch form factor, 9.5mm height - Does not include hard drive bracket, hard drive connector adapter, or screws

That'll do it!

Thanks dude!
