This is my first ever hackintosh build and let alone my first time I've ever built an entire desktop running Mac OS X 10.7.4 Lion and Intel HD3000 full resolution. I had some difficulties in the beginning with Snow Leopard 10.6, because I couldn't get to 10.6.8 without kernel panics. I had already purchased the Apple Lion thumb drive when it was first available before my real mac died. So while on SL 10.6, I used tonymacx86's UniBeast Installation Guide here after the initial Snow Leopard installation to create the UniBeast Lion USB thumb drive and installed Lion. I recommend this way of installing Lion if you can't update without kernel panics.

Then I booted into the Lion 10.7 installer using the command "PCIRootUID=0". ONLY USE 4GB OF MEMORY AT THIS POINT. Once in the installer I open Disk Utility and formatted the drive with SL 10.6 on it, and started installing Lion 10.7 on that drive I just formatted. Then I had to use the command above to boot into the drive and finish the setup process. After that I downloaded MultiBeast for Lion and choose these options along with the custom DSDT from this website.

Now i can finally boot off of my drive without "PCIRootUID=0" and everything was working flawlessly except my screen resolution, because of the Intel HD3000 graphics. To fix that I downloaded PlistEdit Pro and opened up the "org.chameleon.boot.plist" and changed the "GraphicsEnabler" to "Yes", and I added these lines of code.

Change "1920x1080x32" to whatever resolution your trying to get.

Last of all I downloaded the Lion 10.7.4 Combo Update and installed that, BUT do not restart at the end of the update, instead open up MultiBeast again and reinstall your audio drivers because they tend to get disturbed during combo updates. Once your audio drivers are installed, restart. Now go to your System Preference>Displays> Now choose the resolution you would like. Open up Software Update and download any updates. You can now shut down and install any extra memory you may have. That is how to install Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4, with this build!

This is an update for the NEW 10.8 Mountain Lion! If you have followed this guide and are already 10.7.4, then this won't be hard! If not, start at the top of this post to get to 10.7.4. Now for the fun part. Purchase Mac OS X Mountain Lion from the app store. Once thats done go download the latest UniBeast(1.5.3) from the link below. Once you have that downloaded, format your USB stick and run UniBeast to make your Bootable drive. Once done with that reboot and boot from USB-HDD. This is tricky, I had to run the following boot commands to finish the installation ( -x PCIRootUID=0 GraphicsEnabler=No). Once you have completed the install reboot again and boot back into your USB-HDD and select your fresh install of Mountain Lion. This is tricky too, if you don't have a 64-bit kernel installed you will need to enter these commands to properly boot in to the new install ( -x PCIRootUID=0 GraphicsEnabler=No arch=x86_64). These just will bypass all graphics and kernel panics to make it nice and smooth. Now when you have finished the setup, your going to want to download the latest MultiBeast also listed below. For the MultiBeast use all of the same options above but change both the "Apple Boot Screen" & "GraphicsEnabler=No" in the "Boot Options" to 64-bit (NOT 32-bit!!!). Once you have got everything checked that you want, let that install and reboot. Once booted back up you may have to adjust your screen resolution again using the tutorial above! You are now fully updated to the new Mac OS X Mountain Lion. Enjoy.

Because, when I only checked one the ethernet wouldn't work so i had to check both.

Is there any bluray drives that would be compatible instead of the Sony 24X SATA AD-7260S-0B Optical Drive, and would the Corsair Vengeance 16 GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600MHz PC3 work or does it have to be the Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB DDR3 1866 Mhz(PC3 15000) 9-9-9-24 Memory.

I have the exact same system, i installed a clean ML, only had to use GraphicsEnabler=No to get to installer and after so to run multibeast and Chimera 1.11.1. I noticed that you use the MacBook Pro 8,1 i used the MacMini system definition, and all seems ok, is anything gain by choosing one over the other.......

I can't speak to this build, but I have been successfully using a Samsung B123L Blu-Ray drive in my hackintosh Custom MacMini since October, 2011.

This particular drive might be on the expensive side now. I'm pretty sure you can find a blu-ray drive for < $75 that will "just work" in your hackintosh.

You can put as much ram in as you want or as much as your computer can handle but the just make sure you have no more than 4 gigs while installing the OS. After the OS is all installed you can feel free to add any additional ram you have. as for the blu-ray I do not know. I wanted to get one when i made this build but never found any support so decided not to, and this drive was in the customac recommendations. I hope that answers your questions!

I'm still on macbook pro 8,1 and I dont think it really has that much of an impact on anything. But I'd match your computer with the closest available computer.

why no more than 4 gb memory when installing? I only have 8 gb sticks. also i'm looking into graphic cards, is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150614 compatable? Thnxs

The 4GB memory restriction for installation was only for Snow Leopard early on. This is no longer a requirement for Mountain Lion.
