Nvidia 550Ti Sleep / Wake / Freeze Thread

But there is. I use my system 8-10 hours a day. The first day I used the 550 and disabled sleep. My computer locked up on me and got weird blocks. This happened resulting in having to reboot about 4-5 times throughout the day. It happened during use as well as comin back from the screen saver.

I swapped for my 8400 gs and it has worked flawlessly for the last two days including sleep. No lookups what so ever. No weird blocks.

There is something wrong with the drivers. Apple has even acknowledged it and mentioned a possible fix in 10.8.1.

Lol i use my comp for about 18 hours a day..... doing editing and animations..

well hope apple would find the wake and sleep solution

Make me eat my words. Help me fix it. What do I do? I can live without sleep if this card was stable and I can let my monitors at least sleep I'll be happy. Not letting your monitors sleep just isn't an option. Not being able to manually turn the monitors off is unacceptable.

Stop telling us how yours works and help me make mine like yours. I would love to be able to work on my machine with this card for 18 hours a day.

What do I do?

1. Boot to unibeast installer with PCIRootUID=0
2. Install.
3. Reboot in safe mode using PCIRootUID=0 to new install
4. Multibeast? Settings? What?
5. And then....?

watch this video first for creating a unibeast usb.. its important...

after that use this installation ...

what is the difference from including the kext. already in unibeast, or if i install it later manualy?

No difference. And I did a fresh install and then installed only the network kext, and when I rebooted gues what: the problem is there. So I think it's not a problem with the installation, it is a driver problem.

as i also did the same nd it worked for me

if u install the unibeast.. open and see.. there wont be any nvidea kext available there.. inserting the nvidia kext will make things more easier for installation.. DO and it and see how things would work.

That may well be true, but since this thread is about sleep/wake freezes and other graphics glitches anyone reading/commenting here will *already* have ML installed, it's pointless to keep repeating yourself here.

You keep implying that your method gives better results when installed, but as far as I can see from watching your video and reading your other comments you have pretty much *exactly* the same issues as the rest of us - there's obviously some variation because of different mobo/cpu combos.

In other news:
The GTX 560 ti 448 I was looking at as a replacement for the 550 ti may not sit well with my 500w power supply.
Supposedly the GTX 660 ti is released today – kepler in a mid range card...

Smart Asss or Dump Asss idea .... ?

What about pmset options.

Is there a possibility to force the memory to be written to disk to a sleep image. If the system wants to sleep it will write the hibernation or memory content to a sleep image. After that it will shutdown itself instead of going to sleep. To wake up you should turn on the system again and it should boot as normal but it will load the hibernation file. With current SSD's the wake up can be done in 20 - 30 seconds ... Maybe this is an acceptable workaround.

Somebody know how to do this ?

Cheers

Why nobody replies to this suggestion ? Its nice to talk about of buying or not a kepler card without the issues but for me this is said over and over. So for now please be more on-topic. Also telling that sleep isn't an issue because you dont even have a proper DSDT or without a CPUPowermanagement Patch doesn't help us here. Pessimistic arguments that Apple will never solve this issue wont help us either. Nvidia is using an unified driver model which means that crucial or essential functions will be executed the same way between different platforms / chipsets. The old fermi freeze issues in SL weren't fixable told many many times but they were fixed in Lion.

Let we now focus to a solution or at least a workaround. So reply please to my idea above in the quoting box.

What i dont understand is that after install, pre chimera and MB. i had both cards installed and viewing fine using PCIRootUID=0 flag.

after installing Chimera and a bunch of different MB settings i still havent gotten my Dual screens back up.

so i wonder, could a plain install with a simple PCIRootUID=0 flag embedded at the boot time solve these issues ???

i havent got the knowledge to complete this as i am green to this, though am learning :) slowly does it :p
