GA-Z77X-UP4 TH Installation Problem.

Seems like I have similar problems here.

Only one of my back USB ports is working? I have the mouse plugged in here. If I try to plug my keyboard into the port, it does not work. The keyboard only will work in the front panel USB port.

I have no audio, and sleep does not work.

Build is as follows:

Corsair 500R Case
3770K i7
GA-Z77X-UP4 TH Motherboard
32 GB RAM
Nvidia GTX 560 Ti
120 GB SanDisk SSD
2 TB HDD
Corsair H60 Water Cooler

Which Of the back USB ports works?

As for sleep, have you installed the SSDT for you processor type from Mulitbeast? Sleeps didn't work on my system until I did.

Here's our USB problem... The USB hubs (wrong term maybe?) aren't supported. Hopefully that will change!

VIA VL810 on UP5-TH works
VIA VL800 on UP4-TH doesn't work

Is it stupid to consider sending back the motherboard?

With the evga 460 installed the machine locks, no matter which boot options are selected. Machine boots with internal graphics selected and the USB Flash drive. Installed everything on the ML SSD. Ordered a SAPPHIRE AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 PCIE Graphics Card and I'll see how that works! Apple has long preferred ATI over Nvidia, on my Mac Pro Tower an ATI Radeon HD 5770 and an ATI Radeon HD 2600 running separate monitors. On my GA-58 USB3 Hackintosh the eVGA card runs perfectly with Mountain Lion and an Intel Bloomfield processor; no such luck with this system board.

To summarize here's where I'm at today:

On Order GA-Z77X-UP5 TH (chipset may be more compatible)
Stuck on GA-Z77X-UP4 TH with I7-3770K, 8 gigs RAM, GM graphics working, unable to start from SSD (Tried Multibeast with little success). This board will be used to update my wife's Win7 machine, runs Win7 perfectly.

Hell bent and determined to get this processor running with Thunderbolt and that means Gigabyte.

Any input would be appreciated! Can't wait for the new Multibeast!

GOOD NEWS...New Multibeast fixed all the issues! Thanks guys!

Note: FCPX has random locks, lots of guys have the same issue, so I replaced the 460 with an EVGA 660TI, so far no issues but I'll post more if they occur.

@ mattrudinski and dakotaht

you both have the same configuration that i'm planning to order. (GA-Z77X-UP4 TH Motherboard, 3770K i7 and Nvidia GTX 560 Ti not the ATi)

I would really really appreciate it f you can tell us whats happening with your systems. I dont understand why you have more problems as the UP5 users. You already disabled the VIA VL800 usb chipset which is different from the UD5 and wont work?

Edit: excuse me, on my list is the i5 not an i7 but i think thats not the point because both have the hd4000.

thats why i start this topic

http://www.tonymacx86.com/buying-advice/63345-ga-z77x-up4-th-vs-ga-z77x-up5-th.html

i want my self one of this boards, so i m trying to compile all user experiences on this 2 boards.

As you can see the ,in GA-Z77X-UP4-TH there is 4 USB 3.0 ports on back wont work because they use via chipset. There is no driver.
On other hand GA-Z77X-UP5 TH, dont use Via chipset its only a Hub, so the controller is the same of intel chipset.
All USB's here work OOB.

Conclusion, Z77X-UP4 only have 2 USB 3.0 on back + 2 USB 3.0 internal + 6 USB 2.0 internal working.

The Thunderbolt is suppose to not show but as according this guys thunderbolt is working almost OOB.

This isn't correct from my tests. I can only get the 2 native USB ports on the back to work (The 2 below the LAN connector) if I change the "xHCI Mode" in the Bios to "Disabled". This is even worse as they become USB 2.0 ports. It's better than no USB on the motherboard itself.

Maybe i misunderstood your words, but you confirmed what i said
2 USB 3.0 on back + 2 USB 3.0 internal + 6 USB 2.0 internal working.
Only 2 working USB's on the back. All the others working USB's are internals (USB headers).

2 x USB 3.0 ports work on the back (but I have to disable xHCI, which makes them run as USB 2.0 Ports); I haven't tried the internal USB3.0 Ports (these should run as USB 2.0 ports as I have disabled xHCI), so I can't comment on that; I am using 4 of the 6 internal USB 2.0 ports (USB Header 1 and 2, I haven't Header 3)

To summarise, I have have have had to switch the intel (native) USB3.0 ports from xHCI (USB3.0) to EHCI (USB2.0)mode in the BIOS to get them to work. When they are set to xHCI (USB3.0) in the BIOS they are recognised by System Profiler, but anything I connect to them fails to work. When I change them to EHCI (USB 2.0) they work.

I am a bit confused about this as mattrudinski has posted a screenshot above with a USB device showing up on the USB3.0 bus in system profiler.

I bought this board the same day it was recommended on the Customac 2012 list. The four usb 3.0 ports (that connect to the z77 controller and not the VL800) do not work with my usb 2.0 hard drive nor my iphone 4 (which also is usb 2.0). Both of these usb 2.0 devices work on any of the interal usb 2.0 headers (I've tried all 6 usb 2.0 headers).

The four--the pair below the ethernet connector and the pair inside onboard--z77 usb 3.0 ports work fine with keyboard, mouse and my game controller. These 3.0 ports just don't seem to like hard drives or the iphone. I don't knwo what the difference is.

The UEFI settings for the board have xHCI on auto and eHCI handoff on.

So this upsets me that these usb 3.0 ports don't work with hard drives or iphone. I wonder if the GA-Z77Z-UD3H board's usb 3.0 ports don't have this problem. I am seriously thinking about returning this motherboard (I have 30 days with Amazon) and getting a different one without these problems. I also do not like that Intel is changing thunderbolt specifications and might make this motherboard obsolete (unless the changes can be updated with firmware from gigabyte).

Yeah this board is listed as the #2 board in the list and I am not happy with the usb 3.0 and thunderbolt both..

I need some recommendations thanks.

UPDATE: btw, I have not actually tried a usb 3.0 external hard drive on one of these z77 usb 3.0 ports yet--as I do not yet own one. Perhaps I should buy one and try it out.
