ga_h77n_wifi_2.jpgWe know a lot of you have been waiting for Gigabyte’s upcoming mini-ITX boards that are expected to be announced later this month and we’ve now come across the first details of Gigabyte’s H77 mini-ITX courtesy of a Gigabyte roadshow in Europe. The board will be known as the GA-H77N-WIFI and it’s got a fair bit in common with what we’d expect from a Zotac board in terms of features.

In fact, the GA-H77N-WIFI looks set to be a direct competitor in terms of features to Zotac’s H77ITX-B-E motherboard, which in our opinion isn’t a bad thing. As such, you can expect a x16 PCI Express slot, two standard DIMM slots, a half size mini PCI Express slot – which will be populated by a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card when the board goes on sale – two SATA 6Gbps ports, two SATA 3Gbps ports and an internal USB 3.0 pin-header.

Around the rear we have a PS/2 port, two USB 3.0 ports, four USB 2.0 ports, a pair of Gigabit Ethernet ports – using dual Realtek chips – 7.1-channel audio with optical S/PDIF out – we don’t know the exact audio codec Gigabyte is using but we're of the understanding that it'll be a Realtek chip – two antenna points for the Wi-Fi card, a DVI port and apparently two HDMI ports. We would’ve loved to have seen a DisplayPort connector here instead of the secondary HDMI port, or even the DVI port, but otherwise it’s hard to fault the H77N-WIFI.

The Z77 version shouldn’t be vastly different in terms of functionality, but we don’t know if Gigabyte made any changes beyond the chipset, so we’ll just have to wait and see what the company has cooking. Sadly, this is as good as it gets this time around and we're sure some of you will be going a different route for your mini-ITX CustoMac, but for most users, it looks like Gigabyte has a solution that will do the job and then some.

When will the ivy bridge i3's come out? :D

This is good news. I am currently looking into a low power consumption set up. I have integrated the Elgato Eye TV into my Hack, connected to my satellite and am able to watch HD and over 300 channels on my Hack. Using no bandwidth or satellite subscription.

Honestly there is nothing new on this board .

What did you expect? No-one promised a revolutionary product, all that was ever said was that Gigabyte would have it's own mini-ITX boards. It's by no means a bad board, but it might now wow as much as Asus' Deluxe board, but I can bet it'll be a lot cheaper.

is it possible that it will be on sale this month?

I find the dual ethernet+wifi a bit odd. Why would you put those together? Dual ethernet makes it a great small server, and the wifi would be great for a small desktop system. I guess you could use it as a wifi router and server. Personally I hope they come out with a version without Wifi since it's unlikely to be compatible.

So swap the card out, big deal... it's got a standard half size mini PCI Express slot and you'll most likely get your money back selling the card that's in the slot to start with...
