Hi all- thought I'd share a working guide on how to install SL 10.6.8 on your Dell D620 Latitude (Nivida Quadro NVS 110m version).

You will need: a bootable iBoot CD/DVD, a retail DVD of OSX Snow Leopard and the latest Multibeast for Snow Leopard (3.10.1) on flash drive. You will also need a wireless network.

*Warning* -Before you do anything, start your D620, press F2 at the Dell logo to enter the bios, go to Performance and disable multi-core support. If you don't do this you ARE going to screw your install. The Dell D620 is NOT a Core2duo but a Core Duo. The Core2duo is a 64bit processor and thus OSX sees and supports its multi-core- the CoreDuo is only a 32bit Processor and is NOT supported by OSX in multi-core mode.

Place iBoot in the machines drive and restart- the machine will boot into iBoot and give you a choice between your hard drive (usually shown as "Windows" and iBoot.

Do not select anything at this point.

Eject the iBoot disk, place the Snow Leopard retail DVD in the drive and Press F5. The drive will spin up and the option to select the Snow Leopard Install DVD will appear.

Select 'Snow Leopard install DVD"- the DVD will now load, the white Apple start up screen will appear (with the Apple logo in the centre) and the working gear will spin around underneath. This will take about 5 minutes.

When done, the "select your language" menu will appear. Select your language and continue.

Do not install Snow Leopard at this point when prompted. Open Disk Utility and click on the erase tab. Select the hard drive and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Name your drive anything you want. Click erase and when finished, close the program and continue with the installation.

If you wish to monitor the progress of the installation you will need to babysit the machine as if left alon,e the sleep function will kick in and turn the LCD screen off. If this happens, you cannot wake it and will not know the installation is finished until OSX reboots. One trick I used was to plug in an optical mouse, then sit the optical mouse on top of another (live) optical mouse so that the laser's align- this will keep the pointer moving and trick the machine into staying awake.

OSX will reboot the machine once the install is finished- on restart, press F2 at the Dell logo, open the DVD drive, remove the Snow Leopard install DVD and replace the iBoot disk. Reboot the machine and when at the iBoot menu select your hard drive and press enter.

Fill out, follow and enter all the usual stuff required by Apple until you reach the desktop- this includes your wireless network key.

Now click the Apple logo at the top right of your task bar, choose software update. OSX will check for new software. When prompted, update and install.

When the OSX update has downloaded and installed, do NOT restart. Plug in your flash drive with multibeast, navigate to multibeast and open the program.

*Follow these instructions carefully or you will cause a KP (Kernel panic)*

Select Continue>Continue>Continue>Agree>Continue

Now select the following...

Select - Easybeast,

Select - System Utilities (this will select sub categories "Rebuild Caches and Repair Permissions)

Open "Drivers and Bootloaders> Kexts & Enablers> Audio> Universal"- select - VoodooHDA 0.2.1

Open "Drivers and Bootloaders> Kexts & Enablers> Miscellaneous" - select - PS/2 Keyboard/Mice and Trackpads

Click "Continue"- then click "Install"

Once installed restart

You should now have a fully functioning Snow Leopard version 10.6.8 however, if your D620 battery is good, you will need to install the AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext for the battery monitor and icon to function. To do this, I used the AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext found in the extensions folder from the D630 10.6.3 pack (do not install the pack itself or you will cause a KP on boot).

To install the kext, copy the kext to the desktop, go to Applications and open Kext Helper b7, once open, drag and drop the kext into the program, enter your password and install. Then run the program Kext Utility from Applications, then restart.

10.6.8 should see your graphics chip as a GeForce Go 7300 64Mb @ 1280 x 800. This is normal. If Front Row opens and works, you have full graphics acceleration enabled.

I think I've remembered everything but feel free to ask if you get stuck. Beware that OSX will be running in 32bit mode and will not allow installation of any 64bit software on the D620. Also- download and install the latest iTunes as the included iTunes will be out of date and rejected by the iTunes server.

Happy trails.

P.S- big thanks to Tonymac and the team!

This won't work on a intel graphic version???

Hi!

Question:

If you've installed everything, is it possible to switch back to dual core mode, or have to stay with single core, and be happy with it? :)

(I have a 945gma version, and this method works perfectly on single core mode)

Thanks in advance!

Heey i have a dell latitude to 945 gma version
I can start up fine I see the apple logo and it loads fine. But if its done loading and you normally go to the screen were you have to select your language my screen goes black and I hear the cd spinning. But after 10 min nothing happens. Than I pressed the power button I goes on and than i get a message telling me I can't install Mac OS on this device. I did this in single core mode and I tried video settings inboard and dock but nothing else happens. I tried safe mode an verbose to and the pcirootuid=1 didn't work to . And graphic enabler = no did nothing to. Do have to use them in combination. Please help Iam stuck.
Does anybody know wich boot flag I need to use.
Iam using the indoor +multibeast method

Problems with install on d620, just at the last step..

I'm having a problem and not sure what to do?

after installing snow leopard and placing in the iboot disk the sound for the install comes on but the screen becomes blank, when connected to an external monitor the screen is white patches and you cannot read anything? What do I do now? I've installed it a few times with the same results.. System is dell 620 intel, not nvidia with original snow leopard disk.. And milticore was off and bios is a10..

It is possible and this is how i did it... Get a hold of a copy of the D620SLV1.iso open it in a window and u should see a folder called (Postinstall) open it... in there is a ZIP file called (Kexts.zip) open it.. it should open in a NEW WINDOW open the folder Kexts then BASE and u should see alot of Kext files move all BUT ONE it will b named (IONetworkingFamily.kext) to (Computer/Name of ur drive/Extra/Extensions) When it asks do u want to REPLACE (Click NO) <----Important. After that Reboot Press F2 and Enable Multi-Core Support save and exit... Should work PERFECTLY!!!!!!
