AMD Radeon Navi GPU

As you are only spoofing the device ID, not changing the VBIOS, you should get the performance available from the card as allowed by the drivers in use.

An RX6950 XT spoofing the ID from an RX6900 XT would not make any difference, as the two cards are nearly identical bar the power requirements.

With an RX6650 XT spoofed as an RX6600 XT you might increase memory speed and possibly see a larger power draw, but you would be hard pressed to notice either in real world usage.

To be honest the Revised AMD 'XX50' cards are just a filler from AMD to kid people in to thinking they are getting something new, when it is just a rehash of the same card with a slight increase in memory speed on two of the cards. The Stream Processors and quantity of Memory has remained the same in all three revised cards. So as I see things they are basically a gimmick to fill the time between the RX6000 and RX7000 series release.

I went from RX6800XT to the RX6950XT and there is no difference in performance. I actually feel that my 6800XT performed better in MacOS

That isn't much of an upgrade, plenty of expense, but little to show for it. All I can assume is you have more money than you know what to do with, which must be nice. As that was a prime example of purchasing the latest and greatest without first looking at the benefits of the new card.

The RX6800 XT probably does work better than the RX6950 XT 'Refresh' card in macOS, as it is natively supported. Whereas the refresh card(s) require a fake device id to work 'correctly'. Any benefit from the faster memory in the new card is not going to be that noticeable in real life usage.

Hi, is there any follow-up to this comment? Do you still feel that the 6800 XT performed better? ...just evaluating my options: 6800, 6800 XT, 6900 XT & 6950 XT. At the moment, 6950 XT seems to be available for a cheaper price than the 6900 XT.
Thanks

If you can get the 6800XT, stick with that. It works much better and works natively.

Thank you for your advice. I think I will follow it. It’s just that the price isn’t convenient in terms of $ vs performance.

Out of curiosity, did you notice anything specific which lead you to say “it works much better”?

I think it’s likely that Apple will support the new Radeon RX 7900 XT and 7900 XTX (NAVI 3x) ‘soon’. I have no insider information of course. This is just speculation based on lack of Apple Silicon successor to Mac Pro this year, and historical record. When the 6800/6900 were released, Apple introduced the driver into macOS before releasing a 6800/6900 add-on card for Mac Pro.

Well, I might wait a little bit. Thank you for your opinion :)

I hope it will be as you say. But if they stop selling the latest Mac on Intel in their store next year, I doubt they will want to support it with new RX 7xxxx graphics cards.
