MSI PRO Z690 A DDR4 + i7-12700K + AMD RX 580

Spent a few minutes today and updated my EFI to OpenCore 0.8.6. However, in the first few minutes of using it, I have to say it seems to have issues.

1. On Ventura, after getting a login prompt and typing in my password, it goes to a blank Desktop and just hangs with a mouse cursor. I had to force restart.

2. On Monterey, I'm seeing those old WindowServer crashes right away. My 0.8.5 is really pretty stable, even sleeps well. (I do not have wake from sleep in BIOS, I hit the power button on the case when I want to wake up, anything else returns the system to very flaky sleep behavior.)

I'll be attempting updating today and see whats up.

As for sleep, do you have any special settings going on? I believe thats where I landed before moving on for awhile.

I cant remember who mentioned it but changing SecureBootModel to J160 will allow you to update from System Prefs as opposed to the app store. I'm not sure if this will hinder a clean install however. Just an FYI.

My Ventura is working on 0.8.6 fine, no issues.
Sometime ago I got the same issue with hang... Try to clear NVRAM, maybe it helps.

OC 0.8.6 going well over here. Feel free to compare against my EFI. However, I'm uncertain of the things needed for your GPU.

@NorthAmTransAm 's post was referring to a Titan Ridge card (TB3). These cards work with macOS. There is no support for Maple Ridge, and this new controller is fiddly. At best, you may hope that devices plugged before boot will show up but no hot plug.

The best advice is to get a Gigabyte Titan Ridge card for your hack.

Hello everyone! I'm here to check with you something. I'm still with Monterey, and I'm keeping it for now. I'll update to Ventura later.

Regarding Monterey: I have a Fenvi which works well but I would also like to activate gigabit Ethernet built into the mobo. Does it work well, and do I need anything in particular? 2nd question for sleep, should I do something to make it work better?

I haven't updated anything and haven't changed kext either since the beginning with the OpenCore 0.8.0 EFI from @NorthAmTransAm on April 19, 2022... sorry this is my first hackintosh, and I'm not a pro in this area!

!

A few post back I've got an OC086 EFI you should try (and adjust for your GPU and add serial). As for the gigabit Ethernet, you should check out @CaseySJ's z690 build as I believe that info is there. Report back with your findings!

OK. Thank you. I was so stressed about breaking something. I only enabled Ethernet in the BIOS, and it was recognized immediately.

Regarding sleep, which option is better in the BIOS? Manage by: BIOS? Or by OS?

Sleep is a bit of an issue at the moment! I plan to spend some more time on it next week myself. All I remember at the moment is that if you disable fTPM2.0 then you might be able to get repeated sleeps using the power button. Otherwise, we only get one sleep and the second sleep cycle fails and might require a power pull to restart.
