Gurman at it again!;

'Gurman added specific information about one particular ‌Mac Pro‌ configuration that is apparently undergoing active testing at Apple: a model with 24 CPU cores (including 16 performance and eight efficiency cores), 76 graphics cores, and 192GB of memory. The machine is said to be running macOS Ventura 13.3.'

There's talk of a M2 Pro mini, which I think is a decoy for the Mac Pro Cube. But we're probably not going to see it until 2023... Whatever. However at the end of Gurman added we're 'Likely' see new M2 MacBook Pro and Mini 'Within the coming months', I take that to mean Thursday 10 November. Last weekend it was 'Within the coming days'!.

Via Mac Rumors.

Sounds like an M2 x4 or M2 Ultra.

This was something Gurman shared back in August. What would the launch cost be?.

I’m going to go for $4000.
If the target customers are Pros, it has to start at $6000 or more and go up as you add more cores and storage.

Sounds like a cruel and cynical money-gouging scheme to me.

But maybe this is exactly what pro customers want, and can write-off against profits etc. Because I've never been a video/audio or design pro perhaps I don't see the value.

I do understand Apple Silicon has been a fresh new direction, but at these prices it's like the automotive EV revolution. Everything is too expensive right now. Trouble is, EV prices will eventually drop. I doubt Apple prices will.

Better to go with easily upgradable Intel components and graphics cards from the usual vendors.

Yep, it's a gloomy Sunday in these parts!!

I was looking at Mac Studio M1 Max vs M1 Ultra prices... The price is twice as high when doubling the cores...

So, I was just guessing that a doubling of cores again would double the price but hoping that Apple would be nice and give a $1000 discount by going for top of the line.

There could be $1000 taken off the top if the chassis is say 1/4 the size of the old, large, heavy 2019 cheese graters.
So maybe they'll start at $4999 for the base model. Most Pros and Prosumers could handle that price.
All that Aluminium, the 1.4 KiloWatt PSU etc. added a lot of expense. Shouldn't be necessary for the refresh.
May also be that they need bigger profit margins as they sell so few of these compared to all other Macs.

And don't forget the extra charge for the wheels!.

It looks like the 20 core M1 Ultra maxes out at 215W so no need for a massive 1.4KW PSU in the new MP.
